Skate 2 (PS3)

EL33TONLINE
18 May 2009
  • Excerpt: Skate 2 is a wonderful example of a videogame doing justice to an alternative culture, in this case, the underground-gone-mainstream world of skating – you know you’re in for a cultural treat when the introduction and ensuing gameplay features a veritable who’s who of pro skating legends, both in live action and digital 3D form.

Skate 2

Auracore MediaWorks
31 March 2009
  • Summary: A near perfect balance between true skating and arcade fun.
  • Pros: More speed driven goals; hall-of-meat challenges; vast amount of replay value with online ranks and co-op missions; tri-pod cameras in replay editor; hippy jumps; no ridiculous additions like natas spins or an "assume the position" special move.
  • Cons: Soundtrack large, but dated and overly obscure; bail glitches for hall-of-meat online; odd loading times online; insanely difficult goals such as games of "skate" and hand-planting a basketball net; less effects in replay editor.

Skate 2

Hardcore Gamer
19 January 2009
  • Summary: The original Skate reinvented skateboarding in videogames with the flick of a stick, literally, featuring the most realistic and bold skating gameplay since Tony Hawk learned to manual and eventually went Underground. It is no secret that Black Box’s rookie contender came along at the right time to dethrone the decade-long reign of Sir Hawk’s aforementioned franchise, which had grown so tired in its own right it was limping itself into a body bag, ready to be heaved into...

Skate 2 review

Gameplanet
11 August 2009
  • Excerpt: There's a huge amount of potential in this sequel, and it has gameplay you'll keep coming back to time and time again. A must-have for any true skating fan.
  • Pros: Creating and skating spots is worth the cover-price alone. Looks incredible and has great depth if you want it.
  • Cons: The walking/running is not animated well (that’s the politest way I could describe it). Hard to generate enough speed for some tricks.

Skate 2 PS3, Xbox 360 Review

DarkZero
8 February 2009
  • Excerpt: Skateboarding is not about kick-flipping over elephants, gapping moving helicopters or sliding the entire length of a roller coaster on a two-foot piece of wood. Sure, there are a handful of individuals who have done that sort of stuff (probably) but the truth is, skateboarding is about hanging around the bins at Asda with your mates, attempting to clear a downed trolley until your legs give way and your knees start to bleed.

Skate 2 review

CVG
23 January 2009
  • Summary: With its laidback vibe, slower pace and intuitive controls, Skate felt like liberation from the Tony Hawk series’ arcade intensity, million point combos and complex button mashing. So the worrying news – initially, at least – is that Skate 2 feels vaguely bewildering and oppressive. Odder yet, several beguiling, varied and challenging hours later, EA’s sequel reveals itself as a multi-layered labour of love and unquestionably the best skating game ever.

Skate 2

MMGN
22 January 2009
  • Summary: Skate was a near perfect title, and it paved the way for other games such as Shaun White Snowboarding, so to say that EA had their work cut out for them with their follow up Skate 2 would be an understatement. The good news is, they delivered!
