Summary: If I may, I'd like to begin with a quote from a fellow Amazon reviewer for this title: Joman1000: "Despite that (Silent Hill 1) disturbed me beyond words and gave me recurrent nightmares, I felt compelled to keep coming back for more just because it was such an inexplicable, bizarre, unique, emotional, "otherworldly" experience.
Summary: First let me say I'm a true fan of the Silent Hill series, and after seeing the 20$ price for Downpour, I decided to buy it. And after playing it, I found myself enjoying Downpour very much, I'm not to sure why this title got so many negative reviews. Silent Hill Downpour isn't perfect, having texture pop-ins every once in awhile, and having frame rate issues during the auto saves, but nothing to serious to the point where the game is unplayable.
A flawed gem, but a gem nonetheless - BUY THIS NOW!

Summary: If you read reviews before buying games you've seen 3 negative things said about this game: 1)Frame rate issues abound. 2)Monster designs are really bad, boring and not up to the series' standards. 3)Akira Yamaoka, the composer and producer of the series is no longer part of it. And all three are true.
Excerpt: Being my first entry into the series, I’m confident this entry should be looked at from a newcomer’s perspective and not from someone who has played through the entire series. Silent Hill Downpour isn’t one of the best games I’ve played nor is it the worst. However, the game has piqued my interest into checking out past installments via the HD Collection.
Summary: Despite some of the mixed reviews this game has gotten, after finishing it I truly believe that Downpour does the Silent Hill franchise justice. It has all the elements that the 1st three classics were known for (exploration, good storyline, simple but not frustrating puzzles). There are some technical issues that keep it from being the best entry in the series though (framerate issues, bizarre save system, minor screen tearing).
Summary: It's a shame that Downpour is getting rather mixed reviews. Are there technical issues? A bit here and there. Some framerate loss, a few bugs here and there that hinder gameplay. It could be better. But what seems to get overlooked is how this is the most genuine Silent Hill since The Room. It's easy for a company to say, "I get Silent Hill", but the recent results have been distinctly un-Silent Hill products.
Summary: Downpour is easily the best Silent Hill game since SH3. For those unfamiliar with the previous installments, don't worry. You don't need any knowledge of the previous games to understand this one. For those familiar with Silent Hill, Downpour should be a welcome surprise. I think the game has received some bad reviews for one simple reason. Ironically, it's the same reason I've come to love the game so much: Downpour feels like a classic Silent Hill game.
Summary: I consider Silent Hill to be my second favorite gaming series. The only entry I haven't played is Shattered Memories and there's not one I haven't liked. My favorite ended up being SH4 due to its story and the fact that I thought it was the most disturbing. It just freaked me out more than the others. Next up was SH3 because I thought it was the second scariest, had a good story, and had an actual likable protagonist. To be honest, Heather was the only one I had liked.
