Has Good and Bad elements in equal amounts. Very uneven experience.

Summary: I loved most of the silent hill games. This one was only ok to me due to how uneven it was. It hit some decent high notes with a new approach to the other world and exploration(not everyone will like it though). Overall game suffered from a bad pacing problem due to the side quests reducing the tension. I could almost say that silent hill is too open in this game. It might have worked out if the side quests were done better. For example(non spoiler).
Summary: I am a long time fan of the original Silent Hill Quartet but lost interest in the series after Silent Hill 4. I have not played any the subsequent games: Origins, Homecoming, or Shattered Memories until Silent Hill Downpour. Hungering for some new survival horror I decided to give Silent Hill: Downpour a try.
Summary: Plenty of reviews on here already that cover much of what this game has to offer, so I think I will just keep it short and sweet with a "Good" and "Bad" list. This list is primarily for Silent Hill fans who are still debating about whether or not to pick up this chapter in the series. I, too, am a fan of the series, and dove into this game with plenty of hopes and dreads for where it would take the series.
Summary: Let me start by saying that I am a die-hard Silent Hill fan. I played the first game when it was released in 1999, which made me about 12 years old (my parents obviously made a very "wise" purchasing decision at the time) and bought every subsequent game (aside from the Japanese play novel and on-rails arcade game) on the dates of their release.
Summary: This was a pretty average Silent Hill with no real freaky parts. The main
problem with it was the limited number of individual ‘bad guys’. It did have
an interesting story line which did make me want to play more and was made
longer and a bit more interesting with the ‘side quests’.
Summary: Really enjoyed this game despite poor development alot of frame rate drops severe lag. If your a silenthill fan worth a buy as its cheap now if I brought it from release I would have demanded a full refund has plenty of hours of gameplay many quests to do and to top it of a good trophy game as I platted it recently on ps3 :)
Not quite the Silent Hill experience that fans used to know

Summary: For those long time fans, Silent Hill Downpour might leave a sour taste since it doesn't deliver a full blown Silent Hill experience like the PSOne/PS2 classics. Still it can be enjoyable to some extent despite the lack of atmosphere created in the old titles and some minor gameplay flaws such as fighting creatures. I'd recommend it only to fans, especially curious ones.
Moments of greatness but also lots of rubbish moments

Summary: This is probably best as a rental or loaned as it is a interesting but ultimately disappointing game for fans of the franchise. There are moments in this game that are pure Silent Hill greatness, for example the whole section in the creepy orphanage and the cinema where you can walk into the screen.
