Saints Row 2 Review

New Game Network
11 September 2010
  • Summary: Welcome to Stilwater. Don't let the deceptively tranquil name fool you, this is one of the most outrageous and incident packed metropolises in gaming.

Saints Row 2 Review

PlayStation Beyond
2 February 2010
  • Excerpt: After the tremendous success of Grand Theft Auto 3 back in 2001, many developers tried to capitalize on it by releasing numerous clones, such as Getaway, where the player is presented with the huge challenge of driving on the left side of the road, and True Crime, which traded free-roaming and side-missions for a combat system that would make John Woo cry tears of joy.

Re-donk-ulous

Game Informer
22 September 2009
  • Conclusion: Concept: Take the GTA template in a completely gonzo (and often ridiculously entertaining) direction Graphics: The first Saints Row benefited from being the first next-gen sandbox-style game. This time around, it suffers in comparison to the gorgeous GTA IV Sound: A very solid soundtrack balancing well-and little-known tracks in a variety of genres.

Saints Row 2 Review

PlayStation Universe
8 April 2009
  • Summary: Saints Row 2 isn’t Grand Theft Auto, but that's a good thing. With strong replayability and wacky mini-games, the game will remain relevant for months down the road.
  • Pros: Brilliant online co-op, Excellent character customization, Mini-games keep you coming back for more
  • Cons: Disappointing friendly AI, Framerate hiccups and poor collision detection, Random freezing problems

Game Informer
1 March 2009
  • Summary: Who needs realism? It's hard not to imagine those three words guiding the development of Saints Row 2, which proves itself as one of the most ridiculous, stupid, laugh out loud, and fun game experiences you're likely to find this year. Big explosions, unbelievable gunfights, samurai sword duels that show up out of nowhere, even the option to streak the city streets ? here is a title unafraid to embrace its own bombastic silliness and play it up to the nth degree.

Saints Row 2

Playstation Illustrated
26 February 2009
  • Excerpt: Those who only own a Playstation 3 are unfortunate to have missed out on Saints Row , which is (or was, until now) possibly the best open-world action game that does not bear the words "grand," "theft," and "auto" in its title. With the release of Saints Row 2 , PS3 owners can finally take a trip to the not-so-peaceful city of Stilwater.

Saints Row 2 Review

VideoGamer.com
15 February 2009
  • Excerpt: We really hope Volition and THQ are fully aware of the game they've created. Saints Row 2 is a game that excels at being bad. Whereas Rockstar's GTA 4 did its very best to be the most accomplished, cinematic video game of all time, Saints Row 2 often goes in completely the other direction. You could play Saints Row 2 straight down the line, po-faced to the extreme, but doing so wouldn't do the game justice.

Saints Row 2 (PS3) Review

411mania.com
23 December 2008
  • Excerpt: The Saints are coming the Saints are coming. The Saints have returned. In 2006, THQ released the original Saints Row exclusively on the XBOX 360. It was dubbed as the “Grand Theft Auto Killer.” However, that did not end up being the case, not even close in my eyes. But to be fair, it had a few interesting missions to separate it from GTA (Insurance Fraud anyone).

Saints Row 2 (PS3)

EL33TONLINE
2 December 2008
  • Excerpt: (the original game) all over again. Play another four hours and it becomes apparent that this has been fine tuned to very nearly reaching perfection. So, have they gone the GTA4 way? Nope, they don’t seem really worried about what Rockstar is up to as they are pimping a different brand of chaos.
