Summary: All in all there is little improvement from the 2003 game (I did not play the 2007). There are no licenses for New Zealand and Australia and as such you are forced to play using made up characters. There just isn't enough in the game to keep one engaged for more than an afternoon. It is really disappointing especially when you compare it to the Fifa games. It is embarrassing that the RWC would lend their name to such an inferior product. Must do better!
Excerpt: With ever major sporting event comes a licensed game these days and one of the games that every era of consoles never seems to have got right is the sport of Rugby Union. Could this game be the one that changes all that? With the power of the PS3 behind it could this effort be a game that does justice to the sport? Whilst all the players descend on New Zealand the arm chair hookers amongst us will be heading to the couch to try and take our nations to glory.
Excerpt: Having always enjoyed the international rugby games and been a fan of the rugby games released way back when by EA Sports I have long now been waiting for a rugby title to come out on the next generation consoles and when I heard that Rugby World Cup 2011 would be released I felt this was the one to prove that rugby games on the consoles truly can work and be big sellers....oh my what a mistaken hope this was. First off I shall start with the positives...
Pros: Official game of world cup
Cons: Poor graphics, poor commentary, feels like a rehash of a PS2 level game
Save yourself from disappointment at yet another failed attempt to bring rugby to the console masses
8 October 2011
Excerpt: Another big tournament and another big sports game comes our way but finally not just for football! Rugby World Cup 2011 sees the next generation consoles with their first widely available and known title for rugby fans but does it meet the expectations? Positives: The game is the officially licensed product of the tournament and so the teams and statiums are all the official ones.
Conclusion: This game has awful graphics and doesn't feel anywhere near as polished as the football equivalents. Artificial intelligence doesn't work very well as the attacking team and defending team are continually out of position. the only good thing i can say is that the speed of play is satisfactory. DONT BUY THIS GAME Wait for jonah lomu's rugby challenge.
Conclusion: Yes it's great to have a rugby game for the PS3 (finally) and the only reason I have given this game a 2 star rating id because you can play online. Let's be honest though HB Studios must be the laziest developer ever because this game is exactly (and i mean 99% exactly) the same as Rugby 08 by EA Sports. There are the same glitches in this game as Rugby 08 and the graphics aren't what I expected from a game like this.
Excerpt: Rugby World Cup 2011 As a lot of you may or may not know, the 2011 Rugby World Cup is just around the corner! Specifically, 10 days away. So, you can imagine my excitement upon hearing the news that an official 2011 Rugby World Cup game was being released? Exactly! Being a keen rugby player (and fan) its been a long time since a rugby game has been released, Rugby 2008 was the last game of the EA sport franchise which as the name suggests, was released in 2008!
Summary: After waiting for ages for a rugby game on the ps3, i can't help but feel let down, disappointed and cheated. The graphics are not much better than rugby 08. Everything feels rushed. The cutscenes are blocky, no player likeness, players skin colours wrong. The crowd all wear same clothing and wave at the same time. Gameplay is very similar to rugby 08. The annoying habits are here still. Bunch of players chasing the ball, nothing feels new or updated.
Summary: Ok biggest gripe, it feels as if it is the same as the last rugby game but with less features! It is soley based around the world cup yet you don't get New Zealand!! (You do, but they aren't licensed so no carter, dagg etc) Australia isn't licensed either! So you have a game that is based soley around international rugby that is missing (arguably) two of the top teams!!
