Red Dead Redemption

GamesRadar
24 September 2012
  • Excerpt: There’s no point having a sprawling landscape if you can't fill it with tons of shit to do in between the regular missions. GTAIV has the occasional stranger to help out in Liberty City. Just Cause 2 has a stack of things to blow up around Panau. And Far Cry 2 has, erm? <cough>.
  • Pros: An exceptionally detailed world, Shooting mechanics that are a joy, Loads of side-missions to keep you going
  • Cons: Horse racing missions are a drag, The shops are sort of pointless, John can't swim

Red Dead Redemption

High-Def Digest
21 September 2011
  • Summary: “Red Dead Redemption” is the dream of many a young lad (or lass) who pined at some time in his or her life of becoming a hero of the Old West. It should strike no one as a shocking fact that Rockstar’s open-world, third-person adventure game is a phenomenal, immersive experience that not only earns...

Red Dead Redemption

Gaming Evolution

  • Conclusion: Many people like to call Red Dead Redemption “GTA 4 in the Wild West” and I honestly do not mind the comparison. Rockstar did a Grand Theft Auto like job with this game in that it’s a total sandbox game with great dialogue.

  • Excerpt: And whilst that may seem like overly-effusive praise for a relatively inconsequential part of the design, it's precisely that attention to detail that enables Redemption to succeed where others have fallen.

Red Dead Redemption

Playstation Illustrated
17 October 2010
  • Excerpt: The western theme has always been overlooked in the gaming world. Sure, there have been a few good ones out there, but none of them really captured the feeling of being in the "Wild West" and certainly none of them have been great .

Red Dead Redemption (PS3)

ccgr.org
24 September 2010
  • Excerpt: Rockstar has left the busy streets of Liberty City and has headed for the dying Wild West for the spiritual successor to Red Dead Revolver. The game takes place in 1911 in a fictitious area somewhere along the U.S./Mexican border and follows the story of former outlaw turned rancher, John Marston.
  • Pros: World is large; beautiful and “alive” with random events; Lots to do outside of the story.
  • Cons: A few glitches; frame rate suffers at times; the horses can become annoying.
