Excerpt: Rage is a pretty game. It's almost too pretty for the setting it depicts: a wasted, post-apocalyptic world that's been devastated by a giant asteroid impact. It's a little refreshing that it's not all darkness and brown haze, actually. There's tons of detail loaded into everything. Twisted rebar sticks out of concrete chunks, rust and grime covers everything; it's all wonderfully worn and decrepit looking. People are also animated quite nicely.
Excerpt: So I've finally finished playing all the DLCs for Fallout: New Vegas, and was happy with the storyline presented there. But now my need for a post-apocalyptic game comes to the forefront. So it was with surprise that Rage, another title published by Bethesda, landed on my desk. Rage isn't very much like New Vegas, which isn't surprising given that the developer is id software, which created masterpieces like Doom and Quake.
Excerpt: If there was a video game iteration of the cult classic Mad Max then Rage would be it. The cult classic Mel Gibson film is the perfect example of an apocalyptic dystopian society. Bethesda knows a thing or two about creating post-apocalyptic worlds. Rage fits the bill quite nicely, creating a world where humanity is struggling to survive with law and order broken down.
Summary: Rage is the complete package that fans of shooters, RPGs, and buggy racers have been waiting for. Combined with its jaw-dropping visual presentation, Rage easily one of the best games of the year.
Excerpt: . The graphics are some of the best you’ll ever see, but the gameplay is definitely “been there, done that.” …oh, but wait. Is it? Why does very little feel rehashed or reused or recycled from other shooters, and why can’t I stop playing? Well, it’s a combination of entertaining, addictive elements that come together to present us with an irresistible adventure that moves beautifully and captures your interest from the start.
Excerpt: In some ways, it seems like RAGE from id Software, the creators of the first person shooter genre, has arrived years too late. We are likely nearing the end of a console generation that could have used this game at the beginning of the cycle, rather than this far in. In other ways, it feels like RAGE is right on time, as we welcome a glorious return to the raw, pulse-pounding action of an FPS without all of those level-ups, perks, or military commanders constantly...
Excerpt: RAGE Review You can't really blame id for barfing out projects left and right. The legendary developer tends to take its time with each game it creates, resulting in a lot of hype by the time it reaches store shelves. Yet, it's also incredibly smart with how it shares information, and with its latest first-person shooter/RPG hybrid RAGE, we've been left in the dark in a lot of ways. Will it prove that ignorance is bliss?
Excerpt: You won’t like me when I’m angry…and when I’ve got a tri-bladed boomerang Y’know what, we seriously needed a game like Rage . Thanks to pessimistic titles as Fallout 3 , the stark reality of a world hit by cataclysmic disaster isn’t one with any hope. Thankfully Rage adds a little light to any incoming apocalypse by offering up a plethora of weapons and a cavalcade of dastardly creations that can tip fire-fights in your favour to battle your way through the wastelands.
Pros: Stunning environments to explore, A fun if simple shooter balances RPG and Driving aspects incredibly well, Imaginative gadgets to use in fire-fights, Clever enemies weave around bullets to keep battles tense
Cons: Doesn’t stretch into the lore of the land too often, Struggles to challenge thanks to quick health regeneration and Defibrillator revival kit
