Not better than the previous PES title

Marcelo, Amazon
19 January 2009
  • Summary: If you are used to PES 2007 or WE 10, you'll be a little disappointed. Gameplay is a lot more realistic, but slower. The game became a lot harder than the previous versions. You must choose a team a lot superior than the other in order to perform some of the plays that you could before. The graphics could be a lot better, it does not unleash the true potential of the console, and the playability isn't that amusing as the previous versions. Yet, it's still a lot of fun.

It's about gameplay

Forza Catracha "jcva13", Amazon
19 January 2009
  • Summary: This game as all the Pro Evolution Soccer series, formerly known as Winning Eleven, is about enjoying the game of soccer as closely as the real game. When you score you really fight for it and it's not about doing the same play over and over to score multiple times you might try the same play and results won't be always the same.

A good Winning Eleven game overall

Dave, Amazon
19 January 2009
  • Summary: It is certainly not perfect, and my expectations were a bit higher for the PS3 version. However, I will say it is still a good game for previous Winning Eleven (now PES 08) fans. The gap between FIFA and Winning Eleven is clearly narrowing, but I still give Winning Eleven the edge for sheer gameplay. One annoying thing is that replays suffer tremendously from slowdown. If you are the type to get bothered or angered by this, then don't bother with this game.

No online...can you believe!!?

Iris Vaz Vidal, Amazon
18 June 2008
  • Summary: I'm a big fan of PES 2008 since PS1. The gameplay it's fantastic, like always...but it has no online game (too much lag!!), wich it's a huge damage for Konami!! What can I say...a PS3 soccer game with no online!? Let's hope that the PES 2009 change that situation. Overall, for big fans, you just can't live without it...

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008

  • Conclusion: The best, if flawed, footy game out there. If you've played previous Pro Evo games you know how good it is so I'll just have a moan about the probs instead of listing it's good points. Slow down does happen, sorry but it's true, can be a pain when you get a load of players in the box and replays suck due to it. Why include diving when you get booked every bloody time?? Mark Lawrenson.

  • Excerpt: A bargain! My girlfriend recently got a free ps3 and gave it to me! (for a while) and i had to decide what games to get. This was one at the top of my list I played this with my friends when it was released and was amazed at the game play and graphics. It looks fantastic (for the time admittedly a little dated but only a little) with the game play being bery varied (no shot is ever the same like older games (wasnt that annoying!

A great PS3 football title that beats FIFA hands down. 9/10

  • Excerpt: PES 2008 is the first Pro Evolution Soccer title on the PS3 and doesn't disappoint in terms of retaining the realistic fluid game-play, stunning master league mode and good graphics for the next-gen console. Being the first PES PS3 title, you cannot compare to the PS2 titles, but in isolation, the game has very good graphics and retains the realistic PES game-play that has retained Pro's loyal fans for many years.

2009 is out now, and Fifa is probably better

  • Excerpt: First of all i have to say regarding the slow framerate...i have never experienced this at all offline. Online is terrible at the minute but this will undoubtably be fixed in a patch this weekend (i hope). There has been large debate as to which football game to buy this year (PES08 / FIFA08) so here is my opinion - hopefully it may help! I have played FIFA08 on xbox 360 and i own PES08 on PS3.

Better than FIFA08

alexcharliemann, Dooyoo
24 June 2009
  • Excerpt: If you are a football fan looking for your first PS3 football game but cannot afford to splash out £30-£40 on the 2009 versions, then this would be my recommendation. Of the 2008 versions, PES was the best, and here are the reasons why: 1. The gameplay is better than FIFA08, with plenty of variation in the action. For example, for the first time I can remember it was possible to score deflected goals, a nice touch and very frustrating when playing multiplayer! 2.
