Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD review
24 June 2012
Excerpt: A large chicken hawk is taunting us while his massive shotgun is dealing brutal damage with every hit. As we cower behind a wall, there’s a decision to be made. Should we lay traps with furry, fuzzy spheres that happen to have teeth like piranha, then follow those up with lethal blasts of hard-shelled slugs?
Pros: Spectacular “live” ammo, HD visuals look great, Good story, great twist
Cons: Camera can be wonky, Some brutal bosses, Linear, one-way path
Excerpt: Accept quest, leave town, complete quest, and return to town: this method of game progression has existed nearly as long as video games themselves have existed. Stranger’s Wrath HD employs the very same structure, replacing quests with bounties in its madcap twist on popular Western tropes. But such a rigid structure doesn’t do Stranger’s Wrath many favors, and the game suffers before shedding these unnecessary conventions.
Excerpt: When you think of games on the old Xbox, you likely think about Halo , Fable , and Panzer Dragoon Orta . (OK, maybe not that last one.) But there was also an eccentric FPS title on the big box, Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath , that shook up the genre while adding in the kind of hilarity that only Oddworld games can achieve. Now it has undergone the HD treatment and hit the PlayStation Store, looking for new outlaws to take up the crossbow.
Excerpt: The Oddworld games have always had an audience, even if it is a small one. The quirky characters and genuine humor have entertained fans since the original game debuted on the original PlayStation.
Pros: + Quirky characters, + Story is excellent, + Live ammo is unique, + Great plot twist
Cons: Bounty missions become repetitive, Controls take getting used to

Excerpt: Is it a first person shooter? Perhaps a third person platformer? Surely it must be an action RPG of sorts? We’ve had five years to think about it, and the answer is still “yes” to all. This high-definition remake of Stranger’s Wrath stands proudly on an outlandish hill of its own and continues to live up to the Oddworld name by being, quite fittingly, odd.
Conclusion: Auf Oddworld - Stranger's Wrath HD habe ich mich ganz besonders gefreut, denn wo Oddworld draufsteht, ist auch Oddworld drin.
