Conclusion: Overall there isn't a lot to detract from NBA2K7 as a purchase for any PS3 sports game fan. The action is as deep and varied as ever, and providing you can put in the time to learn the nuances of the control scheme and the benefits of playing to the strengths of your favourite team, this is as deep and satisfying as any basketball simulation to come before it.
Excerpt: One of the benefits to the PlayStation 3 hitting toward the end of the year is that sports game developers have time to tweak the game that went out on the 360 just a few weeks prior. In some cases, that time is spent simply integrating the PS3's SIXAXIS controller functionality, but Visual Concepts and poppa company 2K Sports managed to make a few minute tweaks to the game to help make it an overall stronger experience, if mostly in the visuals department.
Conclusion: THE VERDICT: NBA 2K7 is all anyone could expect from a basketball game. It's tricky at first, and navigating the menus is something of a nightmare, but those with more than a couple of hours to spend will find NBA 2K7 has a lot to offer.
Summary: With NBA live taking a seat on the bench and NBA 07 pulling up lame, the PlayStation 3 launch represents a great opportunity for Visual Concepts to establish the NBA 2K series as the dominant basketball sim on the PS3. And that's just what it has done. If you've played the Xbox 360 version of the game, the PS3 version isn't much different, so you pretty much know what to expect here.
Pros: Individual player shots look great, robust online play, terrific animation, more gameplay modes than you can shake a stick at
Cons: Free throws are extremely difficult to make, controls are often unwieldy, motion-sensing support is minimal, frame rate isn't so hot in 1080p
Conclusion: There's two ways you can approach NBA2K on PlayStation 3. If you're wanting the best basketball videogame ever - you've got it right here (alongside the Xbox 360 version). Hands down. However if you're long for something that truly approaches the game and does for it what the likes of Madden, Pro Evo, even Virtua Tennis has done - this ain't it. It's a great videogame , but the nature of the sport vs the game controller means it never takes you to those heights.
Pros: More options than you can shake a stick at, Loaded with depth, Best serious hoops game ever
Cons: The control philosophy remains similar to the past; who is going to step up and take basketball games to the next level?
Excerpt: Sports games, especially the kind that get released each and every year, are the most difficult games to review. Even worse are the kind of sports games that are of high quality as the developer wants to change very little of their product as they don’t want to break the winning formula they have hit upon. Now, in case you have not been keeping up to date, NBA 2K7 is one of the games I speak of.
