Conclusion: MLB ’07: The Show is a solid baseball game offering a huge variety of features to get your money’s worth. Being that this game was made by Sony and is their first offering of a baseball game for their new system, I really did expect more, especially on the visual side. I remember seeing target videos from Sony last year showing how sports games would look on the PS3, and this doesn’t even come close.
Summary: Thanks to Sony's dubious track record when it comes to first-party sports games, its excellent MLB series hasn't always received the recognition it deserves. But after the outstanding MLB 06: The Show, people are taking notice of SCEA's yearly baseball efforts. MLB 07: The Show for the PlayStation 2 didn't mess with success, and nor does the PlayStation 3 version. It's a prettier, smoother iteration of what came out for the PS2 a couple of months ago.
Pros: Road to the show is a great addition, hitting is intuitive, franchise mode is incredibly deep, solid, albeit subdued, presentation and commentary
Cons: Missing a few of the PS2's minigames, Some animation looks decidedly last-gen, Grass and turf look poor
Conclusion: I know I keep mentioning this, but it's important. I don't play sports games, and yet I wanted to play more of The Show . I can't think of a better complement about the game, but it's certainly not perfect.
Summary: The player models and details need work as do some of the extra minor details such as backgrounds for stadiums and surroundings. A solid performance for a baseball game with great announcing and solid sound effects with sound chants and such. Definitely where MLB ’07 The Show shines, great gameplay which can only be toned to get better and better.
