Metal Gear Solid HD Collection review (PlayStation Vita)

GameZone
15 June 2012
  • Excerpt: Let’s just get the bad news out of the way right now.  If you’re purchasing Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on the PlayStation Vita expecting the exact same amount of content you got out of the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 version, you’re going to notice something’s missing right off the bat.  For some unexplained reason, the portable edition is missing Peace Walker , one of the most cherished entries in the series to date.

  • Excerpt: HD Collections have always been an enjoyable surprise, giving players the ability to reminisce over previous releases from years' past (such as God Of War: Origins) that many have enjoyed; the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is no different. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection comes with five unbelievable games starting with Metal Gear 1, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, along with Metal Gear Solid: Peace...

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Review

GamerNode
3 January 2012
  • Excerpt: Crouching in the brush, the soldier readies his sniper rifle and looks in the scope. He scans the area around him, the tension seeping into his every movement. He knows he’s being watched. He knows that it’s fire first or die. Suddenly, a glint of light shines from the brush on the other side of the forest; he’s been spotted. Quickly, he runs for the nearest tree, hoping to get behind it before this hunter becomes the hunted.
  • Pros: Three fantastic games redone in glorious HD for the masses, Amazing online play in Peace Walker
  • Cons: All too familiar, nothing new to offer beside graphics, Lack of the original Metal Gear Solid

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

Gamereactor
6 February 2012
  • Conclusion: This collection is made up of three games: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty , Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater , and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker . But don't think you're in for a narrative that spans across three games where you get to follow the evolution of Snake. Snake Eater takes place 30 years after Peace Walker and Sons of Liberty jumps back 40 years in order to give us the story of Snake's father and his relationship to his mentor, The Boss, who defected.
  • Pros: A chance to revisit the games that defined the stealth genre with updated graphics and online play.
  • Cons: Controls, camera and gameplay haven't aged as one would have hoped.

Metal Gear Solid HD collection Review (PS3)

5 February 2012
  • Excerpt: A (nearly) full history of one of gaming’s hardcore icons The trend for revamping classic titles continues with the latest Konami offering – the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. However, the title is a bit misleading – starting with Metal Gear Solid 2, this package encompasses Metal Gear Solid 3 and Peace Walker (the PSP spinoff from 2010), as well as significant extras from the special editions of 2 and 3, noticeably the original Metal Gear 1 and 2 from the days of the...
  • Pros: Massive amount of truly excellent gameplay, 5 games in one, plus extras, huge story, encompassing several generations of console, intelligent, strict gaming style that has never been bettered, some of the best boss fights ever created, sweet 3D options, SNAAAAAKE!
  • Cons: Still looks a bit ropey, despite the upscaling (Especially MGS2), control scheme is still a pain to use, story is still all over the shop, no MGS1, massive cutscenes + mental story = occasional bouts of tedium
