Excerpt: The screen's a nonsensical mess of pixels. I rub my stinging eyes with the hope that some coherency will return to my blurred vision. Just how long have I been playing anyway? I squint at the pause menu. One life left. Wiping my sweaty hands on my jeans, I re-adjust my grip on the controller. Heart racing, I lean closer to the screen and take the game off pause. Here we go again.
Summary: Mega Man has been saving the world from evil robots for more than 20 years. He has snatched weapons from dozens of fallen bosses, leaped theatrically through more locked doors than is worth keeping track of, and used his dog Rush as a stepstool countless times. In Mega Man 10, the second NES-inspired revision on current-generation consoles, the Blue Bomber once again sets off to defeat Dr. Wily and his army of nefarious robot masters.
Pros: Challenging action without feeling cheap, Bosses are satisfying to conquer, Proto Man is an enjoyable alternative to Mega Man, Challenges provide additional obstacles to overcome, Online leaderboards allow you to watch the best players’ runs
Cons: Some of the boss designs are just dumb, Uninspired soundtrack
Excerpt: First Impressions My reaction is In 2008 Capcom and Inti-Create surprised the gaming world when they released Mega Man 9 (their first of the series on current-gen consoles). I say “surprised” because the game was made to look and play exactly like the old NES 8-bit Mega Mans and sported the same devilish difficulty. This year they released their 2010 follow up, aptly entitled, Mega Man 10.
Summary: If nothing else Mega Man 10 is an ode to those lazy evenings spent as a youth, plugging away at the eight villains to try and learn what their patterns of attack were and how to best get through their levels. Like Mega Man 9 the game is made to look and sound straight out of the 8-bit era, and though the graphics are purposefully jagged the gameplay shines just as brightly as it did back in the day.
Excerpt: Mega Man’s return to 8-bit has been quite the favorable one. Mega Man 9 brought the franchise back to its NES roots, garnering fan praise and critical appreciation; it seemed to be the right move. By bringing these adventures to us in downoadable form, Capcom can satisfy fans of the original side-scrolling adventures, while still entertaining fans of the Battle Network series through handheld releases. And let’s face it.
Excerpt: When Mega Man 9 was first revealed, the gaming community was left in shock due to the 8-bit design. After the game was released, it was clear that going old-school was more than just a gimmick. For the first time in years, fans were given one of the best entries in the Mega Man series. Capitalizing on the success of Mega Man 9, Capcom has delivered another retro-styled Mega Man game.
Conclusion: Here we go again. A bunch of robots are running wild, which has something to do with the robot virus Roboenza. Dr. Wily is supposed to be innocent this time, Capcom tells us, but wise from experience I know that the last boss will be the good old doctor anyway. Sheep Man, Commando Man, Blade Man, Strike One, Solar One, Chill Man, Nitro Man and Pump It stare at me from the screen that let me choose which of them I'll start out with, before I pick Sheep Man and another...
Pros: Awesome boss-fights, sweet graphics, challenging, multiple game modes
Mega Man.
