Meh

Jacob Phomas, Amazon

  • Summary: Let me get this outta the way, I love this game. It's really fun, the graphics are great, and the characters therein are well represented. The reason I rated it as such is because the PS3 version of this game utilizes the "six-axis" controls in a really gimmicky, crappy, kind of way. (BTW The "six-axis" controls barely ever work which gets frustrating). If you're gonna get this game, get it on another system.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

pmboy2002, Ebay

  • Summary: I have always been a fan of comic books since a young age and have loved some of the titles that have been released in the past. The last games that I played were the two X-Men games that were released before the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series and I was thoroughly impressed with the gameplay, etc, of those titles. This title is not a bad title and the game-play is nice. However, it lacks many of the features that made the previous two titles so enjoyable.

Why all the hype????

gert*b*frobe, Ebay

  • Summary: I bought this game after hearing so much about it and the fact that I like games with an RPG element. I have no idea why it got so much hype, but it was just another top view mess that despite having lots of characters and items, it didn't matter because it was all basically the same. Special powers were pointless because this is one of those games that you figure out that you can go through it pressing only one button.

Marvel characters are great - way too repetitive!

  • Summary: Fun to play with 20+ characters, but after a few hours I lost interest. The whole game is walk-hit-jump-block-repeat. Just a lot of button mashing and calamity going on. Even with powerups and unlocking, it still all comes down to w-h-j-b-r! That plus EVERY LEVEL kinda looks the same: drab, maze layouts. Not much in the way of free-exploring or finding secrets. U can destroy a lot of the environment, but nothing to gain from doing it.

One hit wonder

Ephraim S. Lee "epp1e / Rozardo", Amazon

  • Summary: Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a great game, but only when you have some people to play with you. The cooperative mode can be fun, but I definitely prefer the arcade mode because each player is given a score afterward and this will give you bragging rights if you score higher than your friends. However, whether or not you have friends to play with you or not, this game is ultimately a button mashing experience while looking at your favorite Marvel character do fancy moves.

Lots of characters, but no lots of fun.

Christopher Pfaff, Amazon
17 February 2007
  • Summary: This game would have been cool on Sega Genesis, but the aimless wandering and pushing buttons until the bad guy is dead got old real fast. Graphics are pretty cool, nothing amazing though. I had trouble picking out Iceman from some of the bad guys, they looked too similar. The save markers are too far apart, if you get pretty far in the level and have to stop you are screwed and forced to play all of that boring level again.

Reasonable

Liberty Gilmore, amazon.co.uk

  • Summary: I am a fan of the Marvel Universe. From a young age when I used to watch the X-Men cartoons, right through to watching Avengers and loving it last year. However, I'm not exactly a hardcore fan who reads all the comics and knows everything about the universe. And I think this is where the game started to fall down for me - I wasn't sufficiently versed in the universe. On the surface, there's a lot to like.

Not bad

Conrad J Abbott, Amazon

  • Summary: Got it to play with a buddy, but it seems better to go with another copy, something like a collectors edition or something that has the dlc characters in it, as they aren't downloadable anymore.

Great value, great fun if you're anticipating having friends round

  • Excerpt: Anyone familiar with the online game "City of Heroes" will recognise the format that marvel has gone for. This is a 3D platformer giving you access to pretty much every character from the marvel franchise but with one serious advantage.... its the only offline multiplayer beat 'em up on the PS3 at the moment. I was looking for something to play with my friends on a friday night and this definitely fits the bill.
