Summary: Knytt Underground is sure to be one of the most controversial games of the year. It's daring in all the right ways, poking at hot topics and digging into the origins of religion. Even if you ignore the deeply personal narrative, you'll find that Knytt Underground offers one of the most elaborate game worlds ever created. It's a marvel that will keep you going for dozens of hours! Tweet This product was submitted by the publisher for review.
Excerpt: Puzzle-platformers are often overlooked by platforming genre purists as being more about the puzzles than true platforming skill. While this is sometimes true, Knytt Underground is a great example of a puzzle-platformer that skimps on neither of these game mechanics. There may be a good amount of thinking involved, but at the end of the day the controls are pixel perfect, even when momentum physics enter the frame.
Excerpt: Fans of indie games may remember Knytt and its sequel, Knytt Stories . With those previous efforts, developer Nifflas showed that it’s possible for a game to feel tiny and huge at the same time. Those titles’ minimalist graphics and story did nothing to stand in the way of their atmosphere, nor did they get in the way of a sense of adventure and exploration.
Conclusion: Graphically, this is one of the prettiest games I’ve played on Vita, while still appearing extremely minimalistic. The story is light but has a great twist at the end that would surprise even the best CSI. The physics of navigating the world via Mi’s various forms is a huge reason why Knytt Underground is so utterly enjoyable to play. This game could have been only about exploring the 1800 screens, and yet its so much more.
Conclusion: ...and then there was an explosion. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but I think these are the key words to summarise Knytt Underground. This phrase, in fact, is pronounced by Nicklas Nygren, game creator and narrator of Knytt Underground. That's right: the game features Nicklas in person, who uses the most basic narrative devices (the twist) to finish each level in an almost unjustified manner, going so far as to promise the player that the next level will be better...
Pros: + Massive world + Fun twists + Fabulous audio
Summary: For many years Nifflas has been developing games on the PC. The two most notable of these titles are Within a Deep Forest and Knytt. Within a Deep Forest had players taking control of a sentient bouncing ball that had to save the world from a bomb. The game focused on the bouncing physics of different types of balls of different weights and materials.
