Jurassic Park: The Game

High-Def Digest
9 May 2014
  • Summary: Before garnering critical acclaim and Game of the Year buzz with ‘The Walking Dead,’ Telltale Games was a company with the reputation of releasing modern day incarnations of such popular properties as ‘Monkey Island’ and ‘Sam & Max.’ In 2011 though, they would make a big leap forward in the point-and-click adventure genre with their four-episode approach to the ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise.

Jurassic Park the Game

  • Excerpt: I feel like the poor guy in Jurassic Park II when the two T-rex’s tore him in half. In other words I feel divided. I wanted to so much like this game. I was so very excited since the premise is so awesome. Unfortunately Jurassic Park the Game, let’s fans and gamers down in so many ways. What worked for Telltale Games with the Back to the Future Game just falls flat here.

  • Conclusion: If you’re not deathly afraid of QTEs and love Jurassic Park you’ll find a lot to love here, but it’s just got too many flaws to truly recommend it. Did I say flaws? I meant QTEs.

Jurassic Park: The Game Review

GameSpot
21 November 2011
  • Excerpt: Few who made the journey to Jurassic Park via Steven Spielberg's 1993 film have forgotten the island attraction and its prehistoric inhabitants: the spitting dilophosaurus; the swift and intelligent velociraptor; the towering tyrannosaurus. Now, Telltale Games has planned your return trip to Isla Nublar, and it's an authentic Jurassic Park experience through and through.
  • Pros: Interesting story that smartly expands on that of the film, Good use of locations, sound effects and music from the movie, Intuitive, unobtrusive interface enhances the cinematic presentation
  • Cons: Most puzzles are too easy to be satisfying, Absence of consequences diminishes sense of danger during action scenes, Frustrating lack of context for conversation options, Frame rate hitches and control quirks interrupt the flow

Jurassic Park: The Game review

GamesRadar
21 November 2011
  • Excerpt: Above: The king of the dinosaurs shows up a lot, and he's always hungry Jurassic Park: The Game is unlike anything we’ve ever played before. Calling it “Heavy Rain with dinosaurs” is a disservice to both it and Heavy Rain – despite relying on quick time events, it’s actually pretty far from Heavy Rain. A closer approximation would be “Heavy Rain and Dragon’s Lair with dinosaurs,” but even that is oversimplifying things.
  • Pros: Unique gameplay, Fan service, Being eaten by dinosaurs
  • Cons: When the game freezes, On-rails design, Horrible sound mixing
