Not really an essential purchase for anyone

Excerpt: It's become something of a trend recently to give old titles an HD lick of paint and re-release them. In some cases, this is a good thing, giving a new audience the chance to appreciate older games. At other times, it can seem like little more than a cynical attempt to wring every last penny out of some pretty tired titles. Jak and Daxter probably sits somewhere in the middle.
Three games in one. Sadly they are starting to show their age, and would be cheaper individually.

Excerpt: As a consumer I find myself decidedly conflicted with the idea of these high def trilogy releases on Playstation. On the one hand I very cynically believe that they are an easy cash grab on the part of a developer who would rather touch up a few premade games, than put the work into creating something new. On the other hand the retro geek inside me loves reliving these often forgotten classics.
Summary: I had never played any of these games and really wanted to pick up and the HD Collection, as these are my favourite type of gamine. True platformers. Finally I found a copy to buy online, as it was usually out of stock in most places, put it into the PS3 and started to play. The first impressions were really good as it brought back an old-school feeling of Crash-Bandicoot style gameplay that I love.
Summary: I dont have too much to say about this remastered re release except that I'm disappointed. I loved all three of these games and ever since the ps3 was released (and lets be honest we waited a long time for the console...delay after delay and then the issue with no vibration controller)have waited for the next Jak and Daxter instalment. Seriously Sony, why rehash...I don't want to play these games again...been there, seen it, done it.
