Reviews and Problems with Heavy Rain: The Taxidermist
Showing 1-7 of 7
There is little reason to play this disappointing prologue to Heavy Rain.

Summary: The success of Heavy Rain hinged on its ability to pull you into its world. Deftly weaving realistic characters with memorable events and giving you control over how the dire situations played out, this crime drama was able to establish a strong emotional connection despite an abundance of dangling...
Pros: Creepy atmosphere and tense moments, Same great production values and smart context-sensitive controls as main game, Five different endings
Cons: Overpriced at $5, Takes 15 minutes your first time through and less than 30 to see every ending, No further development of Madison's character or the overlying world, Action sequence too closely mimics sections from the original game
Excerpt: There have been few games quite as polarising as Heavy Rain this generation. While some scathed its claims to be the next leap in interactive entertainment, I thoroughly enjoyed it despite some of its apparent flaws – the pause menu alone was simply dazzling.
Excerpt: The Taxidermist is the first of the Heavy Rain Chronicles- standalone downloadable scenes in the style of Heavy Rain, and following the lives of its characters, before the events of the main game.
Review: Heavy Rain Chronicles Episode 1: The Taxidermist (Sony PS3)
8 March 2010
Excerpt: Heavy Rain Chronicles is a downloadable series of games that continues the look and feel of Heavy Rain . The first episode is currently only available to people who preordered Heavy Rain and I have to admit, the way Sony handled the DLC was a two-fold faux pas.
This deeply moving adventure adapts to your every action and is not to be missed.

Summary: The goal of every story is to form some degree of connection with its observer. Most often, this link is fleeting at best, but every now and then, a much deeper bond is formed. This bond is one in which the observer is less of a passive participant and more of an emotionally engaged accomplice.
Pros: Powerful and emotionally engaging narrative, Story continually adapts to your actions, Unique controls convey drama and tension, Highly detailed characters and environments, Stirring soundtrack
Cons: Plot holes and heavy-handed villains, Technical issues break immersion, Poor movement controls
