Immersive hack n' slash for mature teens.

Common Sense Media
27 August 2008
  • Summary: Parents need to know that while Heavenly Sword is only rated "Teen" (instead of "Mature"), the cut scenes depict some genuinely unsettling situations, like when a screaming Kai is pursued by a villain intent on stabbing her to death. The game contains examples of parental cruelty and whole-scale violence on the part of heroes and villains alike. While the story is interesting, it's designed for an older audience.

Heavenly Sword

  • Conclusion: Playstation 3 has been in dire need of a must-own exclusive title for nearly a year now. Resistance: Fall of Man came close but was ultimately no different than countless other first-person shooters already available. With Heavenly Sword, Sony has something unique and cutting edge with minimal shortcomings. You’ll be hard pressed to find a more polished or engaging action/adventure game on any console, regardless of its length.
  • Pros: Possibly the best presented game EVER, Fluid, frenetic combat, Inventive characters, especially bosses, Andy Serkis makes a difference, SIXAXIS controls are fun
  • Cons: Extremely short, Same enemies over and over, Some frame hiccup occurences

Heavenly Sword

Digital Chumps

  • Conclusion: Heavenly Sword was a real treat. There isn’t much I didn’t like about Heavenly Sword, I just wish it were longer and offered more interactivity rather than being so linear. That aside, it’s presented a great story and a really interesting cast of characters. Furthermore it looks and sounds excellent; I’d like to make special mention of the superb voice acting and character facial animations.

Heavenly Sword

Auracore MediaWorks
26 November 2007
  • Summary: Epic, gorgeous, violent, and stylish. You could call it heavenly.
  • Pros: Incredible graphics, audio, and storyline make the game feel like a summer blockbuster; deep and engaging combat system; variety of gameplay; better Sixaxis controls than most PS3 titles.
  • Cons: Better Sixaxis controls don't necessarily mean good; can be completed in an afternoon and not much to do after you beat it; long load times; no jump button is slightly awkward.

Heavenly Sword

PS3style.com
7 October 2007
  • Conclusion: In the end Heavenly Sword gets a lot of things right, but at the same time it leaves a lot to be desired, which is a major problem with over-hyped games. If you have an HDTV it is a big plus, because this is the game to flaunt in front of your non-PS3 owning friends. Like MotorStorm, Heavenly Sword shows what the PS3 is capable of when the developers understand what to do with the tools under its hood, and makes you very anxious to see what the upcoming Killzone and...
