Final Fantasy XIII-2

Destructoid
2 September 2013
  • Summary: Final Fantasy XIII was not a "4" for me , but I wouldn't have given it much more credit. The story was, at times, confusing and very hard to follow, the proper nouns it used made my ears hurt, and the summoned, transforming Eidolons were so silly that I was embarrassed for Square Enix and videogames in general.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 PS3 Review

Console Obsession
22 February 2012
  • Excerpt: A lot of Final Fantasy fans weren’t very enamoured with the 13th iteration of the series, with a major reason behind the lack of love being that many genre staples were omitted, such as towns, NPC interaction and as for the exploration aspect, well there’s probably more potential for adventure up your garden path than what much of the game had to offer.

  • Excerpt: There’s almost no reason to forgo picking up XIII-2 , with one qualifier. As you would expect, the story continues from the story in XIII . If you didn’t like the story before, I doubt you’ll like it any more now. And if you didn’t play or beat XIII , I highly recommend doing so, or at least finding a way to watch or read the story from it. You’ll gain much more appreciation for the world, the story, and the characters if you do.
  • Pros: Story is great; characters, addition of towns works well, feels like a cross between
  • Cons: You won’t get as much out of it if you haven’t beaten

Final Fantasy XIII-2

Digital Chumps
4 February 2012
  • Conclusion: Clawing its way back to relevance, XIII-2 introduces a heap of new and desirable systems into XIII's familiar architecture, and even though some of them are handled rather clumsily, the final product is ultimately better off. Sometimes the lack of cohesion and coherence makes XIII-2 feel like Square-Enix copied someone's homework without properly understanding the problem, but most of does work, and that should be more than enough to satisfy disenchanted fans.

Final Fantasy XIII-2

D+PAD
3 February 2012
  • Conclusion: Although not the complete overhaul that some may have desired, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a surprisingly bold and distinctive sequel. Many of the issues that plagued its predecessor have been negated in one way or another, and the twisting narrative and often downright bizarre tangents that the game spins are enough to keep things feeling fresh and distinctive.

  • Excerpt: installments have been entirely new; i.e., a whole new world, new story, new characters, and even new gameplay mechanics. From Materia to Junctions to the Sphere Grid to Licenses and Gambits and everything in between, each has been magnificent in its own right.
