Review: Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Collector’s Edition (Sony PlayStation 3)
18 April 2014
Excerpt: I realize that it has been about a month already since Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster has come out for the PlayStation 3 as well as Vita and everyone who had been contemplating purchasing it has likely already done so.
Excerpt: I had not played Final Fantasy X or its awkward sequel, Final Fantasy X-2 , since I was a Senior in high school. While Tidus and Yuna's original adventure in Spira has always stood out to me as one of my favorite gaming experiences, I was unsure how the title would fare now, several years later.
Summary: Even considering my fond memories of Yuna's pilgrimage through the ecclesiastical world of Spira, I couldn't help but consider Final Fantasy X 's age when firing up the aptly titled HD Remaster version.
Pros: Lovingly remastered presentation, A healthy dose of additional content, Complex yet rewarding progression, An emotional story that still holds water
Cons: Certain elements of X-2 are too absurd to take seriously, Some less-than-HD textures remain
Summary: Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster keeps true to the series while adding several new elements such as the active time battle system, being the first mission-based Final Fantasy title, allowing for non-linear gameplay, new & unique job classes, and an enhanced character development system.
Worth Listening To Tidus And Yuna’s Story Once More
18 March 2014
Conclusion: Concept: Provide the complete story of Final Fantasy X’s cast with an HD upgrade
Graphics: The visual improvements are noticeable. Everything is crisper and clearer, with more detailed environments and touched-up character models
Sound: Final Fantasy X features remastered and rearranged tracks.
Excerpt: There are some games that never really leave you. For many, Final Fantasy X is one of those games--it's got innovative gameplay, stellar graphics, epic story... pretty much everything you'd expect from one of the best Final Fantasy games .
Pros: Excellent gameplay still holds up, Return of a classic story, Added content
Cons: Some odd-looking models, Carried-over issues from originals, Hit-or-miss additions
Conclusion: Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster took it’s time to hit both the PS3 and the Playstation Vita, but the wait appears to have been worth it. A lot of care and time has gone into bringing these games to this new generation of consoles, and for the most part everything works well.
Pros: Two huge games for a reasonable price, Fast paced, turn-based battle systems, Well realised visual and soundtrack remaster
Cons: Some character remodels are hideous and lip syncing is extremely poor, Voice work is still quite lacklustre, Unskippable cutscenes
