It was developed by Canada-based Ubisoft Montreal and marketed as the sequel to Far Cry by Germany’s Crytek even as the Crytek did not participate in its development process. In comparison to the original game, Far Cry 2 features a different setting, a new style of gameplay, and a new set of characters. There are also no sci-fi characters in Far Cry 2 unlike in the original game where the villains were mutants.
Ubisoft Montreal specifically developed the Dunia Game Engine for Far Cry 2 allowing the game to offer new features such as mission persistence, dynamic fire propagation and storm effects, real-time night-and-day cycle, non-scripted enemy AI, and a dynamic music system. Apart from these, the game features real-time storytelling, and systemic auto-healing. In addition, it allows users to choose from a wide variety of available weapons.
The gameplay area of Far Cry 2 measures about 50 square kilometers and is set in a war-torn African state. Competing for control over this state are two factions: the United Front for Liberation & Labour and the Alliance for Popular Resistance. Players of Far Cry 2, find themselves in a mission to find and assassinate an arms-dealer. This arms-dealer supplies weapons to both factions.
Far Cry 2 offers four multiplayer modes that can accommodate a maximum of 16 players. These modes include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond, and Uprising which are all available for play via LAN or internet.
