Summary: When it comes to milking a franchise, few companies are as impressive in their zeal as Tecmo Koei. This is a company that has not only released seven Dynasty Warriors games (with an eighth on the way), but managed to produce two major spin-off properties, each with their own sequels, and gets away with releasing two spin-off versions of every main installment it produces.
Excerpt: Yes, for all the tea in China. The relationship between reviewers and the Dynasty Warriors franchise can be generally summarized by the game's spawn points. Every year or so, yet another Dynasty Warriors title comes out of the gate full of optimism and vigor... until its struck down in one hit by the harsh, barbed words of critics.
Summary: You all know the story by now. A new Dynasty Warriors game is released, it sells gangbusters in Japan, but gets trashed by Western reviewers who question why these games still get made, and who on Earth would play them. Except on Destructoid, of course, where we actually review the games. Feel free to read on, as we review Dynasty Warriors 7 .
Conclusion: Xtreme Legends, though, is a proposition only for the hardcore Warriors fan or at a bargain basement price. With the original Dynasty Warriors 7 now reduced, picking up this package that arguably has less compelling content and asks for the original disc for some of its modes seems crazy. If you’re just looking for some mindless hacking and slashing, though, this’ll do fine.
Conclusion: That it’s a slight improvement over the last is not a surprise though, and for those of us not in love with the series it’s just another disappointingly average action game. For those of you in the other camp, you can add another two points onto the score and know that it’s a safe bet; but then you already knew that, didn’t you?
