DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue
9 November 2010
Excerpt: Picking up immediately where DeathSpank left off, it’s apparent that our titular, self-titled hero’s adventure has only just begun. While The Artifact was successfully recovered, a newer, sexier and more wearable set of mythical trinkets have been revealed, the fabled Thongs of Virtue. This can mean only one thing: the single greatest undergarment recovery effort in recorded history.
Conclusion: A strange beast, this: funny and addictive and crass in equal measure. Seen as a sequel it can feel a little like a lazy cash-in, but seen as the latest episode in the life of DeathSpank it's well worth picking up.
Summary: If you like Hack/Slash RPG’s, comedy and absurd stories, Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue is worth the money. A dozen hours of fun, tons of hilarious one-liners and a solid combat system for just $15 is a lot of bang for your buck.
Excerpt: Fans of the Monkey Island series have waited a long time for a new, original project from legendary designer, Ron Gilbert. With the decline of the traditional point-and-click adventure came a seemingly similar decline in Gilbert's fortunes and he became better known for his “Grumpy Gamer” blog rants than his published game titles. Thankfully, the release this last June of hit action/RPG DeathSpank, marks Ron Gilbert's successful and much-anticipated return.
Conclusion: Thongs of Virtue is the second half of Deathspank. Billing this as a sequel is a bit disingenuous, but thankfully Deathspank's structure was quite good to begin with, and the humorous presentation remains delightfully distinctive. The art direction and quality of the writing do well overcome a purveying sense of repetition, enabling the player coast through dozens of quests and challenges.
Excerpt: Having moved from a fantasy to a more modern era, DeathSpank will find a number of new challenges in DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue as he tracks down and battles with the other corrupt Thong bearers.
Summary: Only a few months out from its original release, DeathSpank is back for round two with Thongs of Virtue. The first game was an enjoyable romp, but has the game changed enough to warrant downloading the sequel?
Pros: Lots of fun hack and slash action, Entertaining and funny Dialogue, Even more to do and explore
Cons: Game pacing is still off, Not much different, just more of the same from the original game., Some graphical glitches
Excerpt: King Arthur: The Role-Playing Wargame has received an expansion entitled The Saxons only 8 months after initial release. Two questions always spring to mind when an expansion is announced. Will the expansion be worth the price and is the content any good? The Saxons adds a new campaign option to the game allowing players to choose the small but expansive Saxon armies as their starting point.
