Excerpt: The genre of survival horror has seen some major changes during this console generation. Heavy stalwarts like Resident Evil and Silent Hill were given action packed makeovers to try and compete with a wider audience. New franchises have sprouted, each bringing its different take to the act of scaring the user, and each one succumbing to a different level of success. One of the most impressively strong newcomers is Dead Space.
Excerpt: Rather controversially, Dead Space 3 is a cooperative game. The previous two games in the series skipped having this option included, so many fans were obviously a little worried about it being tossed into the mix in this third game. Luckily, it doesn’t feel forced on you all that much, although there is some bonus content for those who do decide to play in a team.
Summary: Overall, Dead Space 3 is a great game. Awakened is a solid DLC release even though the game leaves you in a bit of a WTF place and none of the bigger questions are really addressed. The co-op mode actually enhances the game a great deal and gives a nice little added dynamic to the game. I can’t recall a game that also let you experience zero-g environments this fun or this effectively before. I think the LE version of the game is a good buy at $40.
Excerpt: We first faced the necromorph threat on board the Ishimura . Those creepy, claustrophobic corridors still show up in my dreams from time to time. Then, when Issac returned on The Sprawl , so did the abominations. As the secrets of the Church of Unitology are revealed, and the depth of the Marker’s history unearthed, you realize there is more to the horror than you had imagined. Sometimes humans can be worse than the monsters.
Pros: Co-op is incredibly fun..., ...without detracting from the Dead Space look and feel, Natural evolution to the trilogy's story, Tons of replayability options, It's simply fun to take on the Necromorphs
Cons: Isaac's dementia and psychological scares are gone, Human enemies have terrible AI, No hit-response to human assault rifles, Graphics didn't evolve much over Dead Space 2
Conclusion: Concept: The most polished, well-paced entry in the excellent sci-fi horror series yet. Bringing a friend along for two-player co-op is a blast
Graphics: Snow crumbles beneath Isaac’s boots, necromorphs are disgustingly detailed, and the backdrops are stunning
Sound: Solid voice acting sells the drama, and the cries of enemies are appropriately unsettling
Playability: The new weapon-crafting system and roll dodge make it easy to play the way you want to play...
Excerpt: An ongoing series like a good story that should be wrapped around it, expands and changes with time. Visceral Games the developers behind Dead Space 3 bring their” A” game with them here. It’s a danger for developers to tilt too far off course one way or the other. They stay the exact same in game play and the story. This makes the story and the gaming experience less than inspiring for players.
Excerpt: Dead Space is a game that takes a host of influences and mashes them together to form the scariest game since Resident Evil 4. It features the basic storyline of the movie Event Horizon, the shooting mechanics of Resident Evil 4, a weapon modification system that resembles Final Fantasy X's sphere grid, and a ton of familiar elements from Alien and various sci-fi classics.
Conclusion: The score alone deserves a special mention, reminiscent of Ridley Scott’s Alien, especially during the evac parts, married to sound effects that carry proper weight on top of stellar voice acting rounds off Dead Space 3 as the first highlight of 2013. The new reward structure of crafting weapons and the inclusion of co-op ices a game that yes, has departed from the genre defining first but doesn’t suffer because of it.
Pros: Visuals, pacing, weapon crafting, co-op
Cons: Story pushed too hard with convolution at times.
Conclusion: Dead Space 2 ist ganz großes (Erwachsenen-)Kino.
