Summary: Even purchasing the disk will not spare you from the LONG downloading and installation of the main game. It's a huge game, so you may or may not have the memory to install it. Since it's been free to play for some time, just download it off the PSN and see if it works. You can also play the basic game and see how far you want to go with it. For me, I made it through the first 4 downloads and then things became something of a grind and I walked away from it.
Summary: After seeing all of the old, "this game is awesome!" reviews, I decided to add something new to the discussion. I bought this game close to launch and have been paying every month to keep playing so that I could test out all of the different hero/villain combinations. My first suggestion is don't bother. As other reviews have pointed out, you can now download the game, and you can also play at least a character or two without having to pay.

Summary: The reason I say beware the free download is because of the file size. While the initial download file is rather small, the game itself will take up 18 gigs of hard drive space once installed (which is why people complain of it taking so long to get up and running). That's a lot of precious space for one game. Of course, this large file size won't surprise most fans of this genre who've owned PC games. Space is simply a little more hard to come by on your standard PS3.
Summary: You can download this game for free at psn but be ready for over four hour wait before playing. I had download it and then play the next morning cause it was very late when it finished. I enjoyed creating my own superheroine though and the game is pretty good if you willing to wait that long startup the first time.
Summary: I played this game for a very long time, I maxed my level and played all the instances, had godlike gear and did PvP nonstop. I had a great time, the game mix nicely the MMORPG elements with a more action oriented mechanic that brought a new and enjoyable experience. Sadly the game is short and repetitive after a while and like most MMORPG only hard core grinder can really enjoy it in the long run.
Summary: In OCT 2011, DC Online is going Free to play. This means no monthly fees, and no software purchase to get started. If you haven't played this game yet, wait the 3-4 weeks and play it for free.
Summary: Right off the bat, let me just say I am a hard-core DC fan and would most likely play this game even if it were only worth one star. Cons include game freezes (much more common in recent days), weird physics plays (with some of the movement powers), lackluster game-play graphics, and spotty voice casting. Oh, and the range of super-powers to choose from is quite small. We only have two cities to play around with - Gotham and Metropolis.
