The same shallow combat that plagued the original release keeps this feature-rich pack from being absolved.

  • Summary: The Trials of St. Lucia is a strange piece of downloadable content. On the surface, it seems like a bad idea to look to the worst aspect of Dante's Inferno (the trials that comprise the final third of the game) for inspiration.
  • Pros: Easy-to-use trial creator, Playing as Saint Lucia requires a different strategy, Teaming up with a friend is fun
  • Cons: Combat hasn't been improved at all, Objectives all boil down to the same attack-without-mercy style, No cooperative attacks or ways to help your friend, Strict limit on how many enemies and objects can be on screen at one time

Dante's epic quest loses momentum long before you reach the end.

  • Summary: While Dante slices through the belly of an undead beast with his razor-sharp scythe, traverses a crumbling bridge with a quick-time event, and overthrows the ruler of a damned land with vicious determination, a burst of familiarity might flash through your mind.
  • Pros: Combat is bloody good fun, Some of the creature designs are gloriously vile
  • Cons: Final one-third of the game is lousy, Puzzles are either way too easy or just lame, Uneven difficulty too often relies on cheap deaths
