Condemned 2: Bloodshot Review

VideoGamer.com
9 July 2008
  • Excerpt: There aren't many games that provide genuine scares. The original Condemned managed more than cheap shocks by taking you to locations dripping with atmosphere and terrifying just to be in. Subtle is how we'd describe the first game, yet somehow it's the last word that comes to mind when talking about the sequel. Although still highly entertaining, it seems developer Monolith decided gamers clearly wanted everything ramped up a few notches.

Condemned 2: Bloodshot

Auracore MediaWorks
2 July 2008
  • Summary: Pure horror meets adrenaline pumping combat to create this symphony of chaos.
  • Pros: Some truly terrifying moments; expanded gunplay capabilities and better melee combat makes the game more accessible; crime scene investigations are morbidly enthralling; contains some of the most pulse-pounding chase sequences ever in a game.
  • Cons: Some will not appreciate the focus on melee combat; enemy AI can be spotty at times; the weapon breaking mechanic is more than a bit annoying, especially on the hard difficulty.

Bloody Fun

GIN
7 May 2008
  • Excerpt: A few years ago, I watched a news report that featured a group who had put together an immersive software design (aka video game) that simulated what a person suffering from schizophrenia might experience in daily life. In the setting they created, the first-person character was hailed to by hateful whispers, flashes of disturbing imagery streaked in his vision, strange creatures that couldn't possibly exist strolled in one door and out the other.

PSX Extreme
21 April 2008
  • Excerpt: Sega's Condemned games aren't like most standard FPS games. As opposed to just being a run-and-gun affair, developer Monolith has implemented a whole melee system that deals with fists and objects, but fire power is included too. Picking up a year after the events of the first game, you reprise the role of Ethan Thomas, who has receded into a depression coupled with alcoholism and homelessness.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Bloodshot is a very solid title with excellent visuals, engrossing sound, engaging forensics, and intense hand to hand combat. Towards the finish it seems to lose track of its core elements and falters a bit. It just needed more mannequins.

Condemned 2: Bloodshot

PS3style.com
14 April 2008
  • Conclusion: This is how to make a sequel and keep the fans of the series coming back for more. Condemned 2 outshines its predecessor in every way, demonstrating that with the right development team behind it, a sequel doesn’t have to suck. The multiplayer leaves a lot to be desired, but the FPS and Fight Club modes do add to replay value. Condemned 2: Bloodshot is definitely one to own, but be warned, playing it in the dark at your own risk.
