Excerpt: What does winning mean to you’re defending your base so long the opposition got so bored they stop throwing waves of enemies your way? In Comet Crash players get to go on the offensive, and win decisively in this “tower defense” game from Pelfast. The same old “tower defense” song and dance plays loud and clear in Comet Crash, though before finishing the tutorial, it becomes clear that the beat is from a different drummer; all the usual towers are present and accounted...
Conclusion: Bionic Swarm does what every good expansion should do. It enhances the base game nicely, but offers something that's definitely aimed at those that went the difference with the original. It's still unlike anything else out there and a must-play.
Excerpt: I've lost count of the number of tower defense games I've played and reviewed over the past year, and, good or bad, they were all pretty much the same on a basic level. It's like everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon but no one wants to rock the boat. A year from now it will probably be hard for me to remember the difference between one tower game or another, but the one I will remember will be Comet Crash.
Excerpt: The PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade have been a great incubator for independent game development on home consoles. Comet Crash is no exception. This tower defense game (you read right) would seem better equipped for a PC, but surprisingly it works extremely well on the PS3. They took a concept that is not new, although hardly ever used on consoles, and made it their own. The finished product is one of the better exclusives on PSN.
Excerpt: Comet Crash is a drastic departure from typical tower-defense games. Although you must still defend your base against an unrelenting onslaught of enemy attackers, you are not just a helpless commander trying desperately to hold off opposing forces. Rather, the power of destruction is in your hands as well. To achieve victory, you must not only craft an intricate defensive strategy, but also devise an offensive plan to take down your merciless opponent.
Pros: Superb balance between offense and defense, Constructing a maze to slow down and destroy your foes is a blast, Great pacing, Chaotic competitive mode and engaging co-op
Cons: Sterile visuals are occasionally detrimental to gameplay., No online multiplayer
Excerpt: Chances are many people have grown tired of the tower defense genre as a whole; lord knows there are tons of titles, and more recently, a few have popped up on the PlayStation Store. Fortunately for those tired of simply surviving wave after wave of faceless enemies, there is now Comet Crash . It may look like tower defense and it even plays like tower defense, but this is straight up real-time strategy (RTS) done right and without the fat.
Excerpt: Comet Crash is a valuable addition to the PlayStation Network game library and to the Tower Defense genre too. The game draws you in right from the start, challenging you to hone your strategy skills and drawing you in to try levels again and again so that you can progress deeper.
Conclusion: There's something to be said for iterating on an already proven idea. That's precisely what Pelsoft has done with their take on tower defense, and as a result it plays unlike anything else on the PS3 -- or elsewhere for that matter.
Conclusion: Being my first tower-defense genre title for the PS3, Comet Crash is a rather enjoyable experience. Sure there are a few issues here and there that could hamper the gameplay, however once you get into the game; you tend to overlook the little things in order to enjoy the grander presentation. Though online multiplayer would have been greatly welcomed, the online multiplayer options are very well done and will create hundreds of hours of memorable battles.
