  • Excerpt: It's not very often that big budget games explore adult themes in a very serious manner. Catherine deals with relationships, sex, and commitment among plenty of other extremely mature themes. The game has two distinct elements: conversations and puzzles. The former is fairly simple and straightforward, but the latter element poses some major accessibility problems. You play as Vincent, who is currently involved in a long-term relationship with Katherine.

Review: Catherine (Sony PS3)

Diehard GameFAN
2 February 2012
  • Summary: Catherine is a puzzle platformer made by a development team that has only done turn based JRPGs up to this point. Because of this, the game manages to be highly original and innovative as the creative team was able to think outside the box, but it also suffers from design flaws and bugs that would have never gotten past a team dedicated to making puzzle games.

  • Excerpt: Catherine is probably one of the most unique games to be released on the PlayStation 3 in quite some time as it definitely strays from the traditional gaming norm. In essence, the game is a devious puzzle thriller on the PS3 that contains a colourful yet interesting romantic horror theme with a truly emotional protagonist. It's definitely not your average PS3 game and because of this, the end result is relatively impressive.

  • Excerpt: For a game I spent a lot of time avoiding before E3, post-E3 I've written and talked a lot about Catherine . Like the game's blonde love interest, once you've had a taste of what the game offers, it is really hard to stay away. For all the frustrations it introduces, it finds a way to reel you back in every time. When I decide to rock a videogame soundtrack during my morning commute, you know the game has an exceptional soundtrack.

Game Observer
27 January 2012
  • Excerpt: Despite the over-corporatization of the video game industry, not every game is going to be a consumer mega-hit like whatever Call of Duty game that happens to be coming out any given November. Sometimes, these little-known, niche titles can be real gems in the rough (Demon’s Souls, Trine). Other times, they just barely get by. But more often than not, they are utter garbage.Catherine is not a game for everybody.
