  • Excerpt: It's not very often that big budget games explore adult themes in a very serious manner. Catherine deals with relationships, sex, and commitment among plenty of other extremely mature themes. The game has two distinct elements: conversations and puzzles. The former is fairly simple and straightforward, but the latter element poses some major accessibility problems. You play as Vincent, who is currently involved in a long-term relationship with Katherine.

  • Excerpt: Catherine is probably one of the most unique games to be released on the PlayStation 3 in quite some time as it definitely strays from the traditional gaming norm. In essence, the game is a devious puzzle thriller on the PS3 that contains a colourful yet interesting romantic horror theme with a truly emotional protagonist. It's definitely not your average PS3 game and because of this, the end result is relatively impressive.

  • Excerpt: Despite the over-corporatization of the video game industry, not every game is going to be a consumer mega-hit like whatever Call of Duty game that happens to be coming out any given November. Sometimes, these little-known, niche titles can be real gems in the rough (Demon’s Souls, Trine). Other times, they just barely get by. But more often than not, they are utter garbage.Catherine is not a game for everybody.

  • Conclusion: If you’re not, or never have been, at a crossroads in your life that represents choosing between freedom or security, then you’ll be left with a lovely little puzzle game with a load of unnecessarily slow talking sequences that might be a bit boring. If you’re on the flipside of that coin - and particularly if you’re in your late twenties or early thirties - then it’ll likely represent a lot more.

  • Excerpt: I've got a doozy for you: Does life begin or end at marriage? That's one of the first of many questions Catherine poses directly to its players, giving the option to choose a simple binary response - yes or no. Well, does it? Marriage is also something on the mind of Catherine's primary character, Vincent Brooks.
