Summary: If the main hero of your comic is a pointy-eared young girl with perky breasts and pink hair, it is one of two things -- a Japanese Manga, or a Western comic that desperately wishes it was a Japanese Manga. Blade Kitten , a collection of adventures based around the feisty and annoying creature known as Kit Ballard, is the latter.
Excerpt: If the name of this game happens to call to mind the quirky and amusing comic of the same name on which Blade Kitten is based, please put that out of your mind. The similarities begin and end at the fact that you play as Kit Ballard, “Breaker” (bounty hunter), expert swordswoman, and if my eyes do not deceive me, eleven year old girl. But questionable protagonist aside, this is nothing like the comic.
Excerpt: Cats are cute. Kit Ballard is cute. The chick she’s chasing is cute. Kit’s playful banter is cute. The presentation is, on the whole…cute. Unfortunately, there’s nothing cute about the repetitive and seriously flawed gameplay, which means this little pink kitty outstays her welcome pretty fast. The various forms of cuteness will keep you playing longer than you normally would when faced with a partly broken game, but that’s about it.
Conclusion: Concept: Create an episodic action title that appeals to anime fans and furries alike
Graphics: A bright color palette and unique art style are Blade Kitten’s most appealing characteristics
Sound: The funk-infused soundtrack is great. The voice acting…not so much
Playability: The levels are big and varied, but the gameplay suffers from some sloppy mechanics
Entertainment: Blade Kitten has plenty of creativity and charm, but will likely leave fans of old-school...
Conclusion: Great attempt at the visuals and platforming elements, but feels uninspiring in its narrative. Fans of the webcomic would probably appreciate it more than the Average Joe, who would feel this is better placed in the previous generation of gaming.
Conclusion: If the story had been thought out better, or at least presented better, we’d have a different review as it’s a game that could easily have been picked up and played for hours. The controls are simple, and for an arcade title that’s just what you want. But you still want something that will keep you interested and hooked, which Blade Kitten just won’t do.
