Summary: I personally enjoyed playing Beyond Two Souls and my purchase has been greatly justified but here is my critical review: Beyond Two Souls will take you on an epic journey in storytelling and it will definitely be worth every second of your play time story-wise. However, it has its flaws, and there are quite a few.
Summary: I heard about this game over a year before it came out. I was immediately interested and decided to preorder, since I had played Heavy Rain and really enjoyed it. It didn't take long for me to see how great this game would be. However, there's something really important to note for those of you who do not have the Sony brand Dualshock 3 controllers.
Summary: This game was so breath-taking and so emotional, I forgot it was even a game. The graphics were beautiful, so beautiful that a good friend of my thought I was watching a movie. The atmosphere the game creates gave me the feeling to want to be there with the main protagonist. The lip syncing was done perfectly and you could see the distress, happiness, and anger so well in the faces of the characters and the clear dialogue only made it better.
Summary: After playing the game for a solid 3 hours, I must say that QuanticDream has gone far. The first game I played by them was Indigo Prophecy. That was a great game. The thing you must understand is that Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls is a cinemtaic experience. It's not played like a normal game and often it is a bit clumsy. Overall this is definitely one of my most favorite games ever.
Summary: I thought this was good but do have some issues. Part of my problem is I just played The Last Of US. It is not that this game wasn't entertaining, but rather it was more of an interactive movie than a game. You can not really explore or go off track at all. The game points the player in the right direction if you go even a little off course. It also wasn't very challenging.
Summary: I give this game an 8.5, I rounded to 9. It is an amazing game with a few minor problems. Lets get the problems out of the way first, the only problems I had with the game was the occasional clunkiness of the controls(it wasn't always bad but I don't know why it occasionally was, maybe will be fixed in a patch).
Summary: I am currently 3-4 hours into Beyond and while every technical aspect of the game (graphics, sound, control mechanics) are the best that Quantic Dream has ever done, I'm just not feeling drawn in as much due to their insistence on having the story jump ALL OVER THE PLACE. I mean, you go from kid Jodie to adult Jodie to high school Jodie back to kid Jodie to college age Jodie.... There was one point where I didn't know WHERE I was in the timeline.
Summary: You always know to temper your expectations when the review embargo for a big release game coincides with the actual release of the game. That is the case here. Beyond Two Souls was hyped at E3 (last year) as a huge game but then the only information that followed pointed to issues with the story telling and even the general direction of the game. Hopefully it will turn out to be a solid 8, but I'm not optimistic.
