Beyond: Two Souls

Auracore MediaWorks

  • Summary: It's hard to mess up a game featuring supernatural entities, lots of violence and Ellen Page but Quantic Dream is the developer to do it.
  • Pros: Voice acting is pretty good.
  • Cons: Not a video game; not a movie; nothing of value.

Beyond: Two Souls Review

13 October 2013
  • Conclusion: Because of this, I really wish I liked the game. I’d love to enjoy a game that prioritised the feelings and tribulations of a young girl who becomes a young woman. I would be ecstatic to see a protagonist like Jodie in just about any other game, waving the flag for at least a modicum of diversity. At one point, I found myself controlling a young Jodie as she played with her dolls.
  • Pros: Excellent graphics, Ellen Page turns in a good performance, The homeless scene isn’t bad
  • Cons: Incredibly restrictive gameplay, Very little in the way of actual choice or influence on the game world, Phenomenally tedious and dull nearly all the way through, The QTE-driven action sequences are impossibly boring, If you think about most plot elements for even a few seconds, they’re utter nonsense, The disjointed structure just doesn’t work, Troubling depictions of other races, and an ugly attitude towards humanity in general
