Batman: Arkham City

Destructoid
2 September 2013
  • Summary: Batman: Arkham Asylum was something of a revelation when it released in 2009. Until that time, games based on comic books had a history of being mediocre at best, but Rocksteady took a beloved superhero and let that love influence the development from beginning to end. Arkham Asylum was a critical triumph and a commercial success, standing as proof that a licensed game can strive for excellence and achieve it, provided somebody cares enough.

  • Excerpt: My only complaint about Harley Quinn’s Revenge is its length. The DLC pack clocks in at about two hours. Arkham City wasn’t a terribly long game, and the quest here feels complete – I just like the game enough that I wanted more when it was obviously winding down. You won’t find answers to all of your questions, but I suspect that the plot points expounded upon here and at the end of Arkham City will show up in Rocksteady’s eventual third entry in the series, and there’s...
  • Pros: Finally get to use Robin in campaign, interesting story, combat is as responsive and fun as ever
  • Cons: is a little on the short side, Robin is still unavailable for free roam in the main game

Batman: Arkham City - Harley Quinn's Revenge

GameTrailers

  • Excerpt: Batman: Arkham City - Harley Quinn's Revenge In Harley Quinn’s Revenge, the first story-based DLC for Batman: Arkham City, the Caped Crusader is finally called to reckon with the game’s shocking conclusion. If you don’t already know what we’re talking about, we’re not going to tell you, but suffice to say that the siren in motley has a pretty substantial bone to pick with “Bats.

Batman Arkham City

  • Excerpt: Batman: Arkham City (BAC) is just plain an evolution of what Batman: Arkham Asylum (BAA) was; sometimes evolution is an improvement, and sometimes evolution is nothing more than a progression. BAC has taken a lot of what was good about BAA and made it better, but in doing so, they also made some of what made BAA so great a lot less good. That being said, the comparisons between the games will be kept to a minimum whenever possible.

Batman Is Bad(Ass)

  • Excerpt: Superheroes often get short shrift when it comes to videogames. Spider-man and Superman have had their fair share of travesties, with few exceptions, but Batman bucked the trend when Rocksteady's Arkham Asylum swooped into town. The reviews raved and fans of the comics and the animated series were swooning with delight.

Batman: Arkham City (PS3 Game Review)

  • Excerpt: I am not a big fan of Batman or the DC universe for that matter.  However, I did stumble upon an amazing video game that my friend had last year and it happened to be Batman: Arkham Asylum .  So I borrowed the title and could not seem to put it down until I finished it.  With an amazing combat system, story, gadgets of plenty, and amazing visuals.  Feeling satisfied with the game I said wow they need to make a sequel to this.

Review — Batman: Arkham City (X360)

Techtree
16 December 2011
  • Excerpt: The developer has managed to exceed expectations by bringing together the varied characters and plot into an engaging mix of stealthy action. Going by the way it develops, this iteration doesn't seem anything less than a movie. Cutscenes blend well with the gameplay and barely feel unwanted. Some of them are quite long, but you can always skip them to plunge into the next fight. They say too many crooks spoil the broth.
  • Pros: Gripping narrative; Good blend of characters; Exciting missions; Arsenal of weapons and gadgets; Convincing voice acting; Refined sound production.
  • Cons: Arkham City looks dull; Issues with being able to play as Catwoman.
