Excerpt: Arkham Asylum is one of those places that could only exist in a fantasy world. I mean, if you have a slew of deranged geniuses with the cunning and resourcefulness to break out of any jail at any time, why would you try to collect them all in one place? Predictably, inmates escape on a regular basis to go on crime sprees which leads to Arkham looking more like a place these guys visit when they need a vacation from murder and robbery than an actual institution.
Summary: Ultimately, Batman: Arkham Asylum succeeds because it's a great game, with or without the license. It seamlessly transitions between beat-‘em-up brawler, intense stealth action, and exploration-friendly adventure without missing a beat.
Pros: A great story that makes videogame clichés feel fresh and natural., Seamless transition between different gameplay types, Gorgeous visuals and art design
Cons: Camera annoyances are a life-and-death issue., Challenge Mode is an afterthought.
Excerpt: While other superheroes merely catch the crooks and then parade around with smug smirks, Batman goes out of his way to get inside the criminal mind and twist it into submission; that alone makes him one of my favorite comic book characters. Similarly, Batman: Arkham Asylum crawls inside your head and rearranges the furniture. It’s a triumph of mood and psychological tension, and devoted fans will find a great deal to excite them.
Conclusion: Still, this does little to hide the fact that this is one of the best games of not only 2009, but one of the best superhero video games ever made. Regardless of whether you love the film, the comics, or both, you really should check this game out! What faults it does have do little to dampen the joy of such a complete interactive entertainment package: easy to pick up controls, a complex fighting system, cool toys and some truly eye-popping graphics.
Excerpt: Metroidvania/3rd Person Action A good Batman game? Sounds like insanity. It’s hard to find a good Batman videogame, so hard in fact that if you were inclined to play one you’d have to go all the way back to the late 80′s to find a really good one, probably by Ocean or maybe Sunsoft if you’re in Americaland.
Excerpt: We've been eagerly waiting for this Batman release for some time now, and fortunately we weren't disappointed. Developer Rocksteady Studios has created an exemplary game that, whilst not without flaws, will keep fans happy for months to come.
Pros: The gameplay/controls are simple but perfect for what they are trying to do. Fun story to follow. The Joker is awesome. You really feel like Batman. Lots to do and explore. Tons of wonderful toys to play with. Good mix of stealth and combat. Some fun boss fights. Challenge rooms that allow you to get straight to the action.
Cons: Riddles and hidden items can ruin the pacing. Some riddles may make you feel like you are missing something when in fact they cannot be solved/found until you reach a certain plot point. Lots of boring backtracking to find items. Gargoyle statues can simplify stealth gameplay a bit too much.
Summary: Que dire de plus ?
