Assassin's Creed (PS3) - Review

VGChartz
17 June 2009
  • Excerpt: Assassin’s Creed puts you in control of Altair, a member of a group of assassins. The aim of this group is to prevent war and keep the peace by - you guessed it - assassinating people. But Altair is not a happy camper and he is very much a loose cannon. Very soon into the game Altair makes a mistake which undermines the mission he is on, resulting in the death of a fellow assassin and potentially threatens to destroy their secret society.

  • Excerpt: games with the stealth aspects. Many of you have already read most of the reviews out there. Most are in the 9s, some are in the 7s. After playing through the whole game I find myself sitting in the middle with my feelings on this game. I see the brilliance in the game, but there are also some glaring problems that pop up all too frequently. Your love or dislike of the game really rests on your own shoulders.
  • Pros: The graphics are good minus the pop-ins everywhere, The early hours of jumping roof to roof and eliminating targets, Getting to all the View Points was a lot of fun, The controls take a bit to get used to, but soon you’ll be jumping/climbing everywhere, The big reveal at the beginning, used throughout the story, makes this game a much different experience, After the cliffhanger ending you may start doing some historical research to understand everything that hap...
  • Cons: The information missions and combat are highly repetitive. You must buffer them with side quests to not feel déjà vu, The game does end on a major cliffhanger. Hopefully the next game will come soon.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Assassin's Creed certainly went through an odd path to release. I remember the hype being way up on this game at E3 last year and then just recently it seemed to plummet. Early sales figures for the game have been strong and that's a good thing. Assassin's Creed is, despite its flaws, one of the most entertaining games I've played this year.

Assassin’s Creed Review

GamerNode

  • Excerpt: I will be the first to admit that Assassin’s Creed is not exactly the game that I anticipated it to be. What I expected was the best thing since the advent of the home game console, but what I got was simply an innovative blend of gameplay concepts, stunning graphics and sound, a stellar plot, and a few hampering issues thrown in for good measure.

  • Conclusion: Although these assassinations are largely the same routine repeated in different cities, the depth and scale of the world presented in Assassin’s Creed makes it easy to become swept up in it, even if the game seems to be trying to stop you from being completely swept up in that world.

Game Review: Assassin’s Creed 3 [PS3/Xbox 360]

push-start.co.uk
5 November 2012
  • Excerpt: It’s time once more to step into the mother of all narrative contrivances, the Animus, and interact with history by means of stabbing it from behind. Instead of the ecclesiastical vistas of renaissance Italy, in Assassin’s Creed 3 we’re treated to a more earthly setting in 18th century America, and a more grounded assassin through which to view it.
  • Pros: - Thought provoking narrative
  • Cons: - Frame-rate issues
