Summary: I had played a few of the Brian Lara cricket games (from the same developers as this one) so knew what to expect when I got this game. Ashes has the full array of modes; T20, one day and full test matches which of course includes the full ashes series from 2009 with the correct dates and venues for each test. As with real cricket Ashes has 3 aspects to the game; batting, bowling and fielding. The batting is very easy to pick up with you able vary your shots easily.
Summary: Ashes Cricket 2009 is a cricket game as you can see which offers the players an opportunity to play cricket on their consoles. The main problem with this game is that it focuses on the Ashes Cricket Tournament instead of the regular ICC Championships. The game has been improved and offers more shot selections for the players. It can also be played in a co-operative mode amongst two gamers.
Summary: The only cricket game on the Playstation 3 is the Ashes Cricket game. I picked this up on the first week of release and can say the game has not disappointed me at all. With over 13 teams in the game and a wide number of players any cricket will love this game. The first sense of disappointment in the game will be the amount of tournaments put in the game. It seems like they have put in less tournaments in the game. No world cup to play for!
Summary: While it does have some problems (which cricket game doesnt) i can agree it is the best cricket game to date Batting has been given a major overhaul with not only front/back foot shot selection now an option (about time) after choosing your shot (cut/drive etc) you also have the option of fine tuning the direction with the right anolgue stick for better control of where you want the ball to go, this just makes batting way more fun & realistic than in any previous cricket...
Pros: great new inovations for batting & fielding that actually work, 4 player support
Cons: windows xbox360 controlpad only, no future patch support, average graphics, only AUS & ENG have player names, AI is dumb as always
Conclusion: On the face of it Ashes cricket 2009 is a fantastic game. The batting is fantastics, play a well timed shot an you've got yourself a boundary, play a poor shot, your doomed to failure. The bowling is good, getting the timing exactly right to unleash a stump-smashing delivery, getting it wrong bowling a no-ball or an easy ball to hit.
Conclusion: After the very enjoyable Brian Lara cricket game, it is great that another cricket game has been released which is just as good. This is a very reasonable price for a thoroughly enjoyable game which includes the victorious ashes mode and Beefy's bowling and batting challenges which are fun to challenge yourself with.
