Summary: This game is truly a love letter to those who enjoy retro and or classic games, most notably The Legend of Zelda (1986) which most of the game is spoofing and or is designed to be very similar too, you will find everything from different dungeons and bosses and collecting items to continue and upgrading things such as your sword (which gives hilarious results). This game is recommended to any retro game lover!
Summary: From Software's 3D Dot Game Heroes is a complete homage to the 2D Legend of Zelda games, so much so that it would have been considered more than an imitation if it had released 20 years ago. A few other classic NES-era games get referenced, but Zelda is what the entirety of this release is based on. If you've played a 2D Zelda game, then you've played 3D Dot Game Heroes, but with a game-changing item. 3DDGH's catch is that it's retro.
Short, difficult, unforgiving, fun, homage to classic Zelda games.

Summary: 3D Dot Game Heroes exists all over the spectrum as a love letter to The Legend of Zelda. On one end, it's a perfect recreation of a style of game that doesn't really exist anymore on home consoles: top-down, simple adventure. No leveling up, just slicing enemies with your giant sword.
Good if you are dying to play a Zelda knock-off circa 1990

Summary: I wanted to love this game. When I heard the premise and saw the graphics I was very excited but after putting over 12 hours into the game I'd say that some things should remain in our memories where they can still be cherished. If this game were very, very good then it wouldn't matter that it is a huge nod to the early Zelda franchise. The problem is that Zelda: A Link to the Past (which came out 1990-1992) is a much better game.
Summary: As a gamer who went back and beat the original Legend Of Zelda for the NES this year, I must say that I was VERY surprised by just how much Zelda appears in this game. And it might be worth mentioning that it was a pleasant surprise. The world of 3D Dot Game Heroes recalls both the original Legend Of Zelda, but also reminds me of A Link To The Past in more ways than one.
Summary: At first glance you might be puzzled as to what the theme of 3D Dot Game Heroes is. The graphics are blocky, the game audio sounds dated and there is no voice over dialogue. In fact there are spelling errors in some cases and even poor use of English. What gives?! What we have here is a wonderful throwback to gaming of "ye' olde day" in the theme of Legend of Zelda. It breaks the current mold set by today's standards bravely just breaking them in the wrong direction!
Summary: People looking at this game should already know what they are getting into. For those that dont know...this is a Zelda "homage". If you, like millions of others, wasted countless hours searching for bits of tri-force, you will feel right at home here in "Dotnia". The game is charmingly retro, with a 3D upgrade. Although the graphics are now 3D...everything is made of pixelated blocks that are reminiscent of good 'ol 8 bit graphics. Gameplay is likewise similar.
Summary: 3D Dot Hereos is very much like the original Zelda game on the NES. I have enjoyed playing this game for its old retro like qualities and the new effects of modern day as well. There are several swords you can use and upgrade and some special weapons available as well. The classic boomerang, bow and bombs from Zelda with some new twists to them. I enjoyed this game for what it is.
Summary: If you like the original Zelda this is obviously a pick up for you. The only other thing I can say that hasn't already, the difference with the difficulty is the internet. With Zelda you either had to be very smart, lucky and find a friend who figured out where item X is. In this one, you simply go to the internet if you are stuck. That is really the only thing that takes away from the school being a true NES Zelda love letter/clone.
Summary: I have not gotten too far in this game so far. I have only gotten past the first two temples but so far I love it. I might as well be playing the original Zelda for NES but with smoother controls and better looking scenery. I you are a fan of 2D Zelda games or pretty much any retro action RPG then you will love this game.
