Just what I needed for my 800mm on a Q5

12 May 2014
  • Excerpt: I needed a longer plate to mount my Sigma 800mm lens to a Q5 ball head. Wouldn't trust such a big lens with a single screw and it needed more slide adjustement to balance the lens. This was perfect.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Fits Well, Improves Tripod Function, Solid/Sturdy

Longer Plate, Different Matterial

  • Excerpt: I have the old version of the Manfroto 501 Fluid Head. I use it in conjunction with a Miller SOLO VJ. I Needed to balance front heavy DSLR cameras, so I bought the plate. It fits well, but because of the different metal and/or the matte finish, it sticks a bit. It works well otherwise.
  • Pros: Attaches Firmly, Good Stability, Large Range of Motion

Solid and Pricey

  • Excerpt: Great for being able to balance my camera when I couldn't quite do it with the standard plate. Love it, though it seems over priced - the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars.

Great for Weight Distribution

6 March 2013
  • Excerpt: If you can get over the fact it's obviously ridiculously overpriced, its great. Works perfect for my Steadicam Kit. Really helps with a front-heavy Lenses, and the markings on the side make it a good reference for quickly re-balancing, and finding the camera units centre of gravity. One great thing about it is the fact the locator/alignment pin, can be moved on the plate, when on most manfrotto quick release plates, the gold pin can't be moved.
  • Pros: Adjustable Alignment Pin, Handy Reference Markings, Perfect For Steadicam
  • Cons: Ridiculously Overpriced

Not So Long

Finn, B&H Photo
30 January 2013
  • Excerpt: I bought this plate thinking that it would be longer than the standard one that I use with my Manfrotto 516 head... it is exactly the same length! And then I realized that this plate doesn't fit the 516 head at all. So Manfrotto must have shrunk the standard plate size with the new "hd" series of tripod heads came out. Too bad.

works great

20 December 2012
  • Excerpt: The plate is attached to a 500 mm lens and mounted on a 501 head for DSLR wildlife videography. The numbers on the side make it easy to get a proper balance. Extra length also makes it a good carrying handle when the lens is not on the head.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Fits Well, Improves Tripod Function, Solid/Sturdy
