Summary: The speakers probably play as well as advertised, I was just disappointed they don't do more for an ipod. A great, inexpensive sound boost. I could see no benefit in hooking together multiple sets.
Understand (and be realistic about) what you're buying. I can recommend with some reservations.

Summary: Stars removed due to: 1 - Build quality is sub-par. Within three hours, the silver plastic trim piece surrounding the LED simply fell off. You can clearly see the dried build up of glue which apparently doesn't work very well. 2 - No grill to protect speaker cone. The previous design had a a grill, I don't understand why the manufacturer got rid of it. These speakers are bought for the sake of portability. That is, they will be thrown into a bag on a regular basis.
Summary: I used these speakers for about 6 months and they were pretty decent up until one of the USB ports on the speakers stopped working. The speakers can put out a lot of decibels for their size and travel well due to their size and magnets on the bottoms which keeps them together. They charge up pretty quickly and the battery life is alright. After 6 months, one of the speakers stopped outputting sound and I found that one of the pins in the USB port had fallen out.
Summary: they sound ok. dont know why people talk about the bass... there is none.. they are portable and look cool. the sound is loud for there size. i bought a real stereo potable speaker with a lot more depth for half the price here on amazom. bottom line.... Their ok.!
The speakers are versatile and the downside is the fragile cable and keeps breaking

Summary: I was very excited about this mini speakers and frankly comevery handy whilst travelling and easy to manage as far as recharging as done with USB port and the sound is satisfactory and the astonishing and negative is the cable as the wire connecting are very fragile and my cable is broken but havent hurd a response from the manufacturer or else I will file a complaint with product safety. Hope they replace the cable asap.
Summary: I was pretty dazzled by the five-star reviews of these speakers, describing their awesome sound. I am a victim of feeble Macbook speakers, looking for portable speakers that will boost the bass and volume. I expected too much. Now that I've had these speakers for a week, I think it's important to remember that they are impressive FOR THEIR SIZE. They're indeed super cute, each no larger than a tennis ball.
Average to middling sound quality, not surprising for its size

Summary: Not a terrible set of speakers for the price, but their undersized drivers really have a hard time pushing out an acceptable level of bass. Highs are too sharp and there isn't any adjustment for treble on the speakers. Playing around with the equalizer on my BlackBerry phone and Ipod helped a bit, but still didn't correct the fundamental weaknesses of the speakers.
Summary: I purchased these speakers with some pretty high hopes. They arrived and I can say they are ok. I then bought the iHome iHM79 in hopes they would sound better. And iHomes do. I will do a comparison of these two. Size/Weight: The X-Minis are smaller and lighter that the iHome. The X-minis win this one. Build Quality: Because the X-minis are smaller and lighter, they also feel a bit flimsier. The iHomes have more heft and feel more solid than the X-minis.
Summary: I purchased the X mini speakers a few months ago. Initially the sound was a good crisp and loud for the small package. In the waning months however, the speaker on one side had a short and the other one had a reduced sound before eventually dying altogther. This also may be the reason why the other side which was loud thought it had a short in it, also died.
