Summary: I enjoyed this thing for several years. Audio quality is pretty good although range is somewhat limited. Unfortunately, Sony has abandoned support for the product. The rechargeable battery is no longer available from Sony or any of their alternate parts suppliers. Sony should have told us this was a throw-away item when we bought it. Shame on Sony.
Summary: Sounds decent when connection is good. Subject to interference when nearing cordless phone, 2-way radio, any RF device or busy computer work station. Good Ebay item as original MSRP is simply over-priced. Same / similar technology can be found with AR, RCA, cable unlimited, etc. Dedicated transmitter not required - can be tuned to optimize reception.
Summary: According to other reviews, some people were surprised to receive a speaker without a transmitter. That's because you can order this speaker WITH or WITHOUT a transmitter. Start by ordering it with a transmitter. Then, if you want to ADD ADDITIONAL SPEAKERS, you can order the speaker only. One transmitter can drive as many speakers as desired. For example, in our house, we have one transmitter and five speakers.
Summary: Through some trial and error I ended up with a mixed system that provides wireless speaker system for an office. I found the Sony wireless speaker works better with Acoustic Research's AW-871 transmitter. The transmitter seems to be more effective or powerful. The SONY speaker works well in a larger room as it seems to project the sound well. The AR speakers work nicely in small to medium size rooms.
Summary: Not sure why everyone else received the speaker without the transmitter. Mine came with it and overall sounds pretty good in my bedroom. No there's not a whole lot of bass, but visually it looks pretty nice especially at night with the cool illuminating blue light. For my purposes, I hooked this baby up to my new mini ipod and it works fantastic!
Summary: I bought this as a gift for my parents and just found out [Dec. 25th] they need to also purchase a transmitter to get the darn thing to even work. The picture shows the transmitter- there is NO mention of requiring this piece as well. This information is necessary in order for someone to make an educated decision on whether or not to buy. What a slippery marketing tactic.
Summary: Be careful when you order this item. Even though the picture above shows the speaker with the transmitter, this product is just the speaker. If you don't already have a transmitter, you want to get item number SRSRF90RK.
