Great sound but...

J. Ellis "homeworker", Amazon
24 February 2013
  • Summary: If you wanted to use this as an DLNA box, believe the other reviews that tell you that it just won't work. Sony's early attempt at a box that if they supported it with firmware updates would be perfect. Stupid lazy Sony.

The best sound you will hear for the size

Andy F "Andy F", Amazon
3 September 2010
  • Summary: Some other reviewers on Amazon and elsewhere have been very harsh on this piece of kit, and all because they have no idea how to set up a wireless network, or don't understand it properly.

Sony CPF-IX001 - Works great when set-up correctly.

Geoff H, Amazon
7 November 2009
  • Summary: Some of the reviews have been unduly harsh about this unit. It is no harder than most other networked audio streamers to set-up - I know, I've had some of them! The sound quality for such a small unit is excellent (helped by the sub-woofer in the base/power supply unit).

Absolutely brilliant

Mr. Nicholas J. Hunt "MrFluff", Amazon
7 January 2009
  • Summary: Unlike other reviewers I paid for this and it is worth every penny!! The wireless was easy to set up, no waiting at all! My router is upstairs at the front of the house and the unit is downstairs at the rear of the house so they are about as far away from each other as they can get and the reception...

Once again Sony has delivered!

K. Herrington "hh45", Amazon
12 December 2008
  • Summary: Although sceptical prior to the purchase I read other reviews left on the website and decided to go ahead with buying the speakers. The standard set it is very easy; power cable into speakers which passes through the bass system, battery on the remote, dock you WM PORT player and away you go!

CPF-IX001 - SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Richard Swain, Amazon
1 October 2008
  • Summary: There are two words that describe this device. Tedious and frustrating. I've had one for about six months and I'm simply not impressed at all. It all started during the initial instalation, which was difficult because of the bad instructions that come with the unit.

buy it just for the sound!!

Dr. K. I. Williams "skivor", Amazon
22 May 2008
  • Summary: Both this and the cpf-nw001 now discontinued so some bargains to be had. I just got mine from John Lewis online for £49! Not too bothered about the wi-fi side so just using to playback from my walkman. The sound is just FABULOUS.

Good and Bad Points

S. Cunningham "scunni", Amazon
26 January 2008
  • Summary: I've had one of these for a year and a bit now and, even though it does have some bad points, I still think its an awesome piece of kit - especially for the size of it. The worst points mostly concern the initial set up to get it talking to your WiFi - I struggled for ages to get it to work.

Excellent player - some great hidden features - takes a bit of setting up

B. Douglas "Edit: Item eventually arrived aft..., Amazon
2 October 2007
  • Summary: The Sony CPF-IX001 that I bought was part of a promotion and came as a package with a Sony walkman. The product is extremely versatile and can be used in 3 different ways. 1. WIRELESS PC AUDIO SYSTEM The CPF-IX001 does not store any music, you must either connect it to a networked computer or a...

Like juggling hedgehogs...

D Warren, Amazon
26 August 2007
  • Summary: I, like another reviewer got this item free when buying a Sony mp3 player. For this I am glad... As far as the wi-fi goes, its a bit of a struggle to get it working to any pratical way. Setting it up was not too bad, just be sure to set up the wired connection first, then the wireless.
