Summary: These speakers sounded great after a small break in period. Stage was pretty good, high frequencies were clear but not to bright/crisp and the bass had a good presence without being overwhelming. Unfortunately mine developed a crackling/static noise after only 8 months of use.
Distorted sound, abysmal tech support from manufacturer

Summary: These speakers have a great sound to them, so long as you're not listening to anything with any frequencies around 500Hz or so. The sound gets distorted, and it only worsens as time goes on. In addition, M-Audio's customer support is nearly nonexistent.
Cons: -They're huge. -For their size, they're actually fairly quiet. -Little bass. All of these are minor quibbles compared to the build quality, however. Quite simply, these are horribly constructed, especially considering their price. If you're going to buy them, get them from an authorized retailer ...
Summary: Reviewers love these speakers. I don't see why. They can't do anything right -- not voice, not rock, not classical, not electronic. I've been using the same pair of Yamaha YST-M15 speakers for the past 13 years, and the M-Audio make me hope that they last for at least another 13.
Pros: These are loud, and there's lots of bass (which is on the "pro" side only if you don't care about the quality of your speakers). Passable mid-range. Pretty good sound-stage.
Cons: Boomy, sloppy bass overpowers and obscures all sorts of detail. Treble is somehow both muddy and shrill. Sound is extremely colored and inaccurate. Listening to classical on these is torture. Likewise for voices. The artificial, exaggerated bass ruins everything.
Summary: They worked great for a couple months . I had a set before of the predecessor that had a left speaker problem. I was hoping these wouldn't do the same thing. Only the right one works. It seems to be a common problem. If you only need one speaker then these are fantastic.
Summary: Awesome sound. Problem is the system started delivering distorted sound after a period of time. Would like to buy these again for the sound but cannot recommended purchasing as they don't last long and there is no affordable repair option.
Summary: I got a pair of AV40 that says "latest version". The features are great, price was ok, but it sounded terrible. There was this "boxy" mids and "tinny" highs that drives me up the wall. After 2 days I couldn't stand it any more.
Great sound quality, but the right speaker broke in about a year.

Summary: I'm using these as computer speakers for Pandora, mp3s and DAW software; and I am enjoying the sound quality. For the sake of informing potential buyers, I'll say: With a 'normal' at home computer set-up, these are very large compared to 'normal' computer speakers, so keep that in mind.
Summary: Loved these speakers so much, I bought a second pair after the first set died (I should have known better). This 2nd set now has problems with the left speaker starting to go after roughly two years.
