Don't bother getting this without a dedicated HiFi sound card
3 weeks ago
Summary: I'll try to keep this brief. This is a great 5.1 setup for your either your computer or your home theater in a small room that does pretty much everything you expect it to, but it is incomplete and a curiously stupid design where the receiver/amp is built into the sub. They probably made it this way so you only need one power cable. That's why it only gets 4 stars. The main thing missing from this setup is a good sound card.
Summary: My last computer surround sound system finally failed after more than a decade of heavy use. There aren't nearly as many replacement options as there used to be, unfortunately. This appeared to be one of the better ones. Despite the wattage rating, volume isn't nearly as loud as I had hoped, nor is bass as deep. It's adequate, but not mindblowing. Certainly sufficient for gaming or general computer use, but hard to rock out when playing Rocksmith.
Summary: I just upgraded from the Logitech Z5300e 5.1 system which was analog only and had just one main input. The overall sound is better on the z906 but setup was much easier on the old system. I think the main difference is that the old system was primarily intended for PC/analog consoles at the time and the z906 is intended for just about everything you can throw at it except HDMI. It is almost a receiver.
Pros: Excellent bass, pretty good detail in the Highs and the Mids are actually present. Easy connection options, good amount of inputs. DTS and Dolby sound pretty good with minimal speaker tweaking.
Cons: Takes quite a bit of option and speaker tweaking on the PC if you're connected via analog. Good sound card/onboard is a must.
Excerpt: Acceptable price compared to available z-550 optionsWhen my 12yo z-5500 got blown no option for repair could be acquired, central processor blown, and until that sad day it was a beautiful thingThis z906 is alright, it is ok, i like it, it is really, to my searching self, the only thing that can approach the satisfaction of my now moribund z-5500.
Pros: 51 Surround Sound, Bass is good, Clear Sound, Easy To Set Up, Energy Efficient, Good Remote, Intuitive Controls, It Is New And Supported, Looks Good Really Does, Pc Compatible, Really Does Sound Good, Very Adequate Sound
Cons: Cannotpush To The Extreme, Limited Volume, Not As Perfect As 5500, Not A Z-550
Summary: Just like others have said, this set is not for home entertainment system. This is for PC entertainment system (need to have a good soundcard). If you listen to the music more than watching movies, this set is as good as Bose is. You'd save few bucks. Logitech, please make an improvement then YOU WILL BE THE BEST!
Pros: After using this set for a while, my conclusion is if you use them as entertainment speakers by hooking them to your TV or BlueRay/DVD player. The sound is GREAT for listening to music. However, watching movies are another story. See con for more details.
Cons: I can only hear the sound of the movies not the dialogs, no matter how loud the volume is. In other words, I barely hear what they are saying in the movies.
Summary: I needed a new sound system for me PC after I moved my actual home theater sound over to my big screen to I went searching for a decent sound system for PC. the z5500s are longer made, and (Auction) posters want TOO much for it. So I looked at what was Logitech's current and I saw the z906, researched it's specs, and compared with the z5500.
Pros: This is a really good sound system for PCs. -great bass -great satellites -not limited to just having to use their satellites Overall the sound is just great!
Cons: Viewers are probably wondering why I removed an egg if this system is so "great," well here's the con(s): - Not better than it's predecessor (the z5500) - Price, and only BECAUSE, it is not better than it's predecessor (call me ignorant if you choose); well that and it doesn't look as good (in my opinion).
Pros: Great 5.1 system with lots of preset speaker and output configuration built into the control unit. Sound quality is beautiful, from crystal clear highs, to booming bass, this system will satisfy even the most picky of folks.
Cons: I went from a Klipsch 5.1 system that lasted about 12 years faithfully.. Loved it. This system sounds beautiful, but one thing that really bugs me is it has no EQ on the control unit. At times the bass is too much, wish I could turn it down a lil'. Otherwise, the preset speaker config is kinda odd, some games don't use the mid speaker, others do, regardless of configuration..
Liked the Z5500 better but this is a good replacement
FRANCIS X COARR, Amazon

Summary: Liked the Z5500 better but this is a good replacement, Adjusting the levels to the room is a bit trickier, but the sound quality is still there. A good deal, best home theater system you can buy for the $$.
