Excerpt: I had a pair of Altec Lansing speakers that I had for years and was very happy with. The "pin" plug was flawed, and I made the mistake of taking it out, and then couldn't get it back in and jacked up all the pins. I wanted the same speakers but couldn't find them so upon reading the reviews on the Logitech Z523's, decided to go with those. Well, honestly, I do NOT like them. These speakers have NO middle ground. There is bass, and ALL bass.
Summary: I was very excited to get these speakers and very disappointed when they came. I love Logitech and prefer them for all of my peripherals, but these were a huge letdown. I received a horrible humming feedback when I first plugged them in. I unplugged the 9-pin connector and reseated it, screwing it ALL the way in. This took care of the hum; however as soon as my foot touched the slack cable, the humming came back.
Summary: I bought these for my daughter's PC. I really like Logitech hardware (I'm using their keyboards, mice, controllers like joystickes, gamepads and steering wheel) so I was expecting something that would sound as good as (or better than) the Creative speakers I have hooked up to my own PC.
Pros: Attractive. Easy setup.
Cons: Bass way to loud, combination missing a whole spectrum of frequencies, satellites sound like cheap dollar store speakers.
Summary: I bought these speakers for my girlfriend as a gift because of many good reviews, but I was SO disappointet of the sound when I finally heard them I am amazed how little sound have improved since my first Creative set (Inspire 4.1 4400), a very cheap one indeed, almost same price as this one, and it was back in 2002. The z-523 offers almost only mid-tone sound, which is horrible for both music and games, and the bass is nothing compared to it's giant size.
Summary: Pros: -Great sound for the price (was 59.99 when I bought it) -Easy setup Cons: -Wire between the left and right speakers could be a little longer -Left speaker started crackling about 2 weeks into use Title says it all. Submitting an rma on this today and getting the z623. I don't turn these up very loud, so I was a little disappointed that the item was defective. Not sure what the return rate is, but a quick google search shows many other posts with similar problems.
Summary: Logitech was known to create good sounding computer speakers at an affordable price . The prevoius set I had, the X203 was great. It still sound perfect after all these years. The Z523 however break all the rules we would expect from Logitech. They just does not sound right, and on those rare occasions where one want to turn up the volume, the sub rattle quite badly.
Summary: These speakers are not worth the price! They sound good if you keep the volume half way up..I turned mine up and had major static...I had purchased the Genius 2.1 4 piece speaker system and for half the price they are great! (Walmart labeled it a 3 piece system but is a 4 piece).
