What you need if your Z-5500 control pod is "Kaput!"

Summary: It was odd "reviewing" this... as it's a replacement part for a larger system, and thus it's sort of strange, trying to not review the top-level system along with the replacement component. So... let's do both. The Logitech Z-5500 speaker system is a TERRIFIC 5.1 speaker system, providing outstanding "computer-focused" surround sound for games and in-office-media-playback. However, it has a few design defects and quality issues.
Summary: My original control unit for a Z5500 speaker let it's smoke out a few months ago and was dead after about 5 years service. Since the speakers are no longer produced I expected that I would have a hard time finding a replacement control unit. Doing an on-line search turned up a lot of used parts most of which were non-functional but also turned up this seller who apparently has a stock of new replacement control units for the Z5500. So I ordered one.
Excerpt: These are easily the best looking and sounding 5.1 speakers i've ever owned. The only issue that seem to have plagued these wonderful speakers is that at a high bass level the Subwoofer may blow out.
Pros: Gets plenty loud, goes beyond PC speaker use, 4 different digital input options, the subwoofer goes beyond its frequency rating, the bass output is tight and amazing, high freq's are also good, easy and quick setup, sturdy, well-built system.
Summary: If you care about your sound quality, the richness of the deeps and the pureness of the highs and the fullness of the mids then this is the system you want! Retail it is about $420.00 US. For the money it may sound a bit much, but the sound quality is very near to BOSE quality and the functionality is very logical and simple!
