User Review

knox g., Newegg
13 January 2015
  • Summary: Next time go with a name that is in the sound business. Not a manufacture of computer mouse & cameras trying to sell speakers.
  • Pros: Great sound quality.
  • Cons: It never lasted. It is a waste of good hard earned money. They don't last at all. It worked for 2 years and out of nowhere it begins to short out and sound became distortions.

Technical Warning

Mark H., Newegg
23 March 2011
  • Summary: I've now had 3 MX1000 mice, a G15 keyboard, and my Z5500s die within months of purchase. I used to be a big fan of Logitech but I believe i've reached my limit with them.
  • Pros: They sound great when they work.
  • Cons: I have had these for a little over two months and made the mistake of not buying them through the egg :( The speakers/sub started making a loud humming sound. Unplugged the sub and heard something moving around inside. Opened it up and found a capacitor rolling around in the sub enclosure. I did ...

THX is a joke

Dwayne T., Newegg
28 February 2011
  • Summary: With computers the way they are today, if you are going to put this much money out on a speaker system just but an HTB by Onkyo, Yamaha, or few other companies with less than 1% THD and normally 80 watts per channel or more for the same price or less.
  • Pros: good compared to other "computer" speakers
  • Cons: for these to be certified by THX they must have lowered the standards just because these are computer speakers. 10% THD is lousy and is like a low priced discount store stereo. This certification is a total joke. Just a marketing ploy.

Stunned and Amazed

Adelaida M., Newegg
23 December 2010
  • Summary: I truly am stunned and amazed at all the 5 star reviews. Maybe most of those reviewers use this primarily for movies or TV shows. It does do OK with that, however with music it fails miserably and some of the 5 star reviews mention music. So why? Well all I can figure is it's the Mp3 generation.
  • Pros: Nice controller pod, plenty of connectivity options, nice remote control and Loud (however considering the quality of what comes out of the speakers I'm not sure that is a good thing.) If you throw the satellite speakers in the trash (where they belong) and hook up some cheap used Klipsch promedi...
  • Cons: I'm simply stunned and amazed that this system has so many 5 star reviews here. This system has the most horrendous quality for music reproduction I have ever heard and yes I do have an excellent sound card. I am also quite a fan of Logitech's other products. At first I thought I must have a bad ...

Do not buy these!

Richard K., Newegg
6 December 2010
  • Summary: Dont waste your money on these as you will be sending them in for warranty replacements for the life of your speakers...as long as they break within 2 years of your rreplacements. Sub still works, maybe I can mod it into a stand alone sub! :D
  • Pros: Sound great, when working properly....
  • Cons: too bad they dont work for very long. Im on my fourth set (thank goodness they were all warrantied) & need a fifth set but are out of warranty by a month. First set, pod quit working. Second set center channel quit working. Third set the whole right channel quit working. Fourth set the dolby sett...

Stay Away at ALL COSTS

Christopher C., Newegg
29 November 2010
  • Summary: The first set I had was awesome. Would literally shake the house, could hear them across the street at the mailbox. The last three (3!) have been weaker, without the massive sound output. I don't know why I am having so many problems with these speakers.
  • Pros: Loud, powerful bass, can handle a lot of power, big but not obtrusive speakers, sound great when they work, long speaker wire included and not permanently connected to the speakers, speakers look cool, bass is HUGE and kicks a lot of power out
  • Cons: I am now on my third set of these in less than 18 months. Have returned two sets to Logitech for replacement and now the third one went out last night. CANNOT handle extended periods of loud playing, such as listening music or gaming for long periods. Control pod dies easily, the first speaker to...

Z680 more reliable, for price edifer s760d can not be matched 899

Gmanl1, Amazon
23 November 2006
  • Summary: I personally like my z680 better smaller but more reliable. the z680 has a ventilated amp and sub completely enclosed with sub attached to back with wires through small hole. The 5500 sub is actually the back of enclosure so it's not ventilated and amp and capacitors are directly exposed to air from...

Worked great, for a day.

  • Summary: Received my replacement control pod promptly and after some unboxing noticed some light scratches on the buttons under the screen that made it seem that it had been previously used.

Logitech Z-5500 speaker system

FaSSBlac, Amazon
21 November 2006
  • Summary: Dont think they make this any more. Its great when it works, but you are royally screwed if the control module goes bad!!! If your control module has a certain serial number, that is older, you cant find a replacement for it!!!! Logitech will not sell you a new control module.
