Excerpt: Logitech’s Z-5500 5.1 speakers, one of our all-time favorite picks, suffer from a serious flaw: They’re just too darn good. Though a couple lower-powered 5.1 options have made their way to the shelves since their introduction a couple years ago, the Z-5500s stubbornly refuse to budge from the top of the pile. Amazingly, considering these suckers are readily available and have been for some time now, we still can’t find a better option for discerning audiophiles.
Pros: Excellent sound; Plenty of power; THX certified; several processing modes
Cons: Lacks TrueHD and HDMI passthrough; minor design foibles
Conclusion: The Logitech Z-5500 Digital speaker system is a 5.1-channel behemoth that boasts a wealth of connectivity options and multi-channel effects. It's a perfect match for most game consoles, home theaters, and PCs—but its bombastic low end can become overbearing with certain types of source material.
Pros: Fearsome volume levels. Plugs directly into almost any analog or digital source. Deep bass. Outstanding tethered control pod and wireless remote.

Conclusion: First of all, you have to consider the scenario these speakers will be used in. For a computer setup, where space is limited, I think you can't do much better than the Z-5500. Just sit in front of them, and listen to a stereo source. The imaging is absolutely stunning. If you're the type who watches movies on the computer, again, these would be just right for you.
Pros: Supports up to 6 inputs; 2 digital, Decodes Dolby Digital and DTS, and supports Pro Logic II, All the power you need for a PC; sounds great in such an environment, You won't do better than this at $300
Cons: Sound quality is lacking outside its element (PC desks), LCD display cannot be disabled or dimmed
Logitech Z-5500 Digital THX Certified 5.1 Speaker Set Review
24 October 2005
Summary: I don't know where to start. These speakers are just amazing, the clarity this speaker set delivered was unmatched. Even the Logitech Z-680s could not compete with the Z-5500s. Both sets are incredibly loud and offer superior bass than anything I've owned before and yes, I've even owned Klipsch and Bose Speakers.
Conclusion: Overall, the quality of the sound that this speaker system produces is out of this world. You won’t find a better speaker system for the same price. There are several things that I consider flaws, but if you are willing to put up with them then I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Excerpt: For around a US$275 investment you will never find a better sound solution on the market that will allow you to terrorize with such force that you will be hated for months. It's intimidating, it's ridiculously powerful, and it is capable of much more than the average user will ever subject it to.
Summary: If you need a great set of PC speakers for movies and games, then the Z5500s should be a prime candidate. For music lovers they may not be the first choice, but their strong performance all around means they cannot be ignored.
