Tips for people using Mac Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.2)
12 February 2013
Summary: I couldn't get it to play sound through it, but found I needed to go into system preferences, so if you're not familiar with your mac, click on the apple in left hand corner, system preferences, then sound, and for output, choose Logitech USB or whatever it says. You may need to restart your computer. So the sound was really nice compared to the speakers in the Macbook Air (or most laptops).
Summary: My boyfriend had bought the Logitech N700 and he was extremely happy with it. So I decided to buy the Logitech N550 to use it with my netbook. If I had never seen how a N700 works I think I would now be more less happy with my purchase but since I know better I am not exactly thrilled about the Logitech N550.
N550 Speaker Lapdesk - Netbook Sized, OK Speakers, Overpriced

Summary: The Logitech N550 Speaker Lapdesk is a good option for a netbook. While they advertise that this unit will accommodate up to a 14.1 inch laptop, I wouldn't use for anything bigger than a 13 inch laptop, like the Apple MacBook Pro MC700LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop . It will certainly comfortably accommodate that unit or anything smaller. Most laptop's will be too heavy for this unit, and you will likely want to step up to the Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 .
Summary: I have a Dell XPS M1210 laptop that has a 12" screen. According to the specs, it should fit the Lapdesk. But, unfortunately it was too small. Love the speakers. Cushion is fairly hard so I had to put a pillow under it. My old TV lapdesk (as seen on TV) was more comfortable on my legs, it didn't tilt in the wrong direction, and my XPS fit on it better. I rate it only a 3 star because of comfort and size.
Summary: My only point of comparison for laptop desks with built-in speakers is the Philips Cushionspeaker, which is better than this Logitech unit in almost every way. First off, a lapdesk needs to be comfortable. This means a well-padded underside and enough height to raise the laptop to about eye-level. This lapdesk does neither of these things. The underside is pretty hard, especially in comparison to the luxurious cushion of the Cushionspeaker.
