MAC users beware

ButchMon, Amazon
22 November 2010
  • Summary: These are nice little speakers. They sound great and fit out of the way.....when they aren't having problems. I bought these for my MAC OS X 10.6.5 and after hooking them up to the firewire 400/800 adapter and then raising the volume slider past 3/4 high the sound was interrupted and was replaced with distorted feedback. After some research at the Lacie support page i changed the frequency on the Audio MIDI setup utility from 32khz to 44 khz. No change in response.

  • Conclusion: I bought these speakers based on reviews I read on other sites. Unfortunately after 13 months (1-year warranty has expired) all I get are continuous popping noises, whether powered by firewire or an optional power adapter.

Find another pair of speakers

A. Winn, Amazon
24 July 2009
  • Summary: These speakers are not worth your money. I had three problems with these speakers. 1. Connecting these speakers via Firewire made the fans on my black MacBook run continuously at a high velocity. Very annoying and loud as well. 2. There are no volume controls on these speakers which wouldn't be a problem if they weren't so loud. However, I could only turn them up to 3 or 4 on my mac (out of 16). Anything higher would be way too loud.

Beware Vista Users!!!

I. C. Giurgiu, Amazon
25 March 2009
  • Summary: This product gave only headaches. First time I used on Windows XP, I was misleaded about the type of Firwire port I needed. So I had to buy also a power source for it. Next , when I switched to Vista, of course, there are no drivers and tech support told me that they are not even planning to develop drivers for Vista. I called Customer Support and they were more than unhelpfull, laughing in my face, about being stucked with these little suckers.

LaCie problems all over again

Catweasel, Amazon
26 May 2008
  • Summary: In my experience with LaCie over the past 10 years, with external hard drives and monitors, product support and quality are virtually non existent. I bought these speakers under the illusion that nothing could possibly go wrong - how wrong I was. The quality of the speakers is good, the sound is good, but there is one horrendous fault - the loud interference from both speakers when you wake your computer up. I believe this on only happens on an Apple Macintosh computer.

Neat but over stated

Mr. D. Knowles "Denis Knowles", Amazon
16 March 2008
  • Summary: I purchased these for my Apple Mac Leopard desk top. They sit well either side of the screen and the connection for iPod is useful. However, the claim of 90-20K cycles is fanciful. Whilst the sound is crisp, particularly in the high register, the bass is almost non existent. They certainly do not come up to the 5.1 speakers I have for my Windows set up that cost less.

Horrible sound

Anders Ojgaard, Amazon
31 August 2007
  • Summary: I do not understand where the good reviews of these speakers are coming from. I will walk you through my experience: Plugged them in with some trouble. Cables are extremely short, so you have to put your PC cabinet right next to them or go out and buy an extension cord. My cabinet is just under the table, but the supplied firewire cable couldn't even make it to the table top. After installing the driver they started playing. No problem. Except the sound was horrible.
